Reason a Day RMGN is hoping you flunked grammar schoolBy Nick, Section News
![]() An unconstitutional constitutional amendment Michigan's constitution allows for citizens to use the ballot initiative process to produce singular and individual amendments to the constitution while employing the use of a constitutional convention for large-scale substitutes and rewrites. Article XII, Section 2 of the current, binding constitution states in part that: "...The ballot to be used in such election shall contain a statement of the purpose of the proposed amendment, expressed in not more than 100 words, exclusive of caption." The document goes on to state that "...every petition shall include the full test of the proposed amendment." Emphasis mine. I'm certainly not a grammarian but if Mrs. Bowman taught me anything in the 3rd grade it is how to differentiate between singular and plural. The word "amendment" is singular. The plural of the word would be "amendments." The extremist RMGN petition seeks makes no fewer than thirty-six (36) unique amendments, plural, effectively changing a full two-thirds of the legal document, clearly in violation of the Michigan constitution. I guess the shadowy drafters of the petition scheme could have benefited from tougher graduation standards. Which is the plural form of the word "standard," by the way.

On this anniversary of the founding of our nation, the birth of self-rule and the creation of the Hope-there's that word again!- of the world, it is essential that we reflect on what made this experiment work and why we need to return to those principles before the experiment fails...miserably.

While we're talking petitions... Most of the petition talk going around the conservative blogosphere to this point has revolved around the shady effort to rewrite the constitution, and with good reason. There's another petition floating out there though that just announced their intentions to turn in between 500,000 and 550,000 signatures by next week's Monday deadline.
A proposal to legalize the destruction of viable, human embryos (read: babies at their tiniest) for the purpose of scientific "research" will likely face voters this November. And when you hear the mad scientists (h/t Clydes Dale) rave about all of the Faustian benefits we could reap, hey, it sounds like a pretty good deal. Except for that pesky little fact that the research they want to perform literally destroys human life. Here are the facts: A- Embryonic stem cell research has produced 0 cures and treatments. 0. With a Z. B- Adult stem cell research has produced HUNDREDS of cures and treatments, a small, peer-reviewed sample of which are available at this link. C- Stem cell research is already legal in Michigan. It isn't just OK, it's wonderful if scientists want to pursue life saving and improving cures and treatments by using adult and cord blood stem cells. D- Backers of embryonic stem cell research (and baby killing) argue that they need to harvest the human beings to get to something called "pluripotent stem cells." These are the cells that they believe can be changed and shaped and twisted to produce cures and treatments. What they don't tell you is that researchers identified this year a method to harvest these critical cells from ADULT skin cells. Without killing a single embryo. E- That means that embryonic stem cell research is, quite literally, obsolete. Backers of this petition plan are expected to spend tens of millions of dollars on a TV ad campaign to convince voters to support outdated science. Makes a guy wonder, why the giant effort to legalize people killing? Seriously. Why? Read on... Last Friday, June 27, 2008, a beautiful funeral Mass was held at Assumption Grotto Parish in Detroit for seven victims of the War on the Unborn.
Like the funeral Mass held on Saturday, May 3, 2008, for twenty-three other victims of America's abortion nightmare, the June 27th Mass received virtually no coverage from the mainstream media. For background, see: http://www.rightmichigan.com/story/2008/5/8/02533/25550 Once again, Archdiocese of Detroit Auxiliary Bishop John Quinn presided over the Mass, which was attended by over 600 pro-life witnesses - more than double the attendance for the May 3rd Mass. Additionally, this time Fr. Frank Pavone, the founder of Priests for Life and a nationally known figure, gave the graveside eulogy prior to the burial of the unborn babies in Assumption Grotto's parish cemetery. Yet, there was not a peep about this event from the so-called mainstream media. The media certainly knew what was occurring, since, on the morning of the Mass and burial, the Catholic, pro-life activist group Citizens for a Pro-life Society held a press conference right outside the Livonia abortuary where members of the group had found the seven unborn babies illegally disposed of in a common dumpster back in April of this year. Citizens for a Pro-Life Society reports that the Detroit News never bothered to show-up to the press conference, while WDIV-Channel 4 only sent a camera man (and footage from the press conference was never aired). Another news outlet, Fox2-Detroit, "sent a rookie intern to the press conference with a camera man" and "they were also seen at Assumption Grotto for a short time," but, again, no story or footage was ever aired! ![]() A ballot initiative that eliminates the right to use ballot initiatives! You'd think the mystery financial and strategic minds behind Reform Michigan Government Now would be big fans of the peoples' right to change things via ballot initiative and referendum, since, oh, I don't know, they're using that tool themselves? Curious then, that their scheme actually changes the constitution to seriously limit access to these tools by average Michiganders. We know RMGN goes to great lengths to centralize power in Lansing, silencing the voice of normal folks outside the Capitol city. The proposal strips the people's elected representatives of the right to draw legislative district lines, instead granting it to a new nine member panel of bureaucrats who could settle disputes, literally, with the flip of a coin. We've discussed that before. But if they're going to take away the voice of the people through representative government I guess they might as well take away voters' recourse and the ability to change things they don't like, too. Included in the fine print of this liberal extremist petition are constitutional changes that not only prohibit judicial review of their new bureaucratic redistricting plans (yes, you read that right), they prohibit those plans from being rejected, amended or repealed by the legislature OR via ballot initiative or referendum, the very tool the shadowy organization is using to make the change in the first place. In other words, the petition constitutionally creates and enshrines a new unelected bureaucracy that is 100% immune to citizen, legislative and judicial oversight. They answer to no one and their decision is final. Period. No recourse. Ladies and gentlemen, liberal extremists' perfect definition of "good government."

I swear, we could talk about a shocking new detail or a major new scandal out of Detroit every day for a year and we still won't have gotten to the bottom of all of the sludge (har) in the lefty Mecca. Today it's the Ivory Tower telling us that a member of the mainstream media has been officially caught up in the mix:
Lewis said Stinger was not at the meeting to report the story. It's unclear why Stinger attended the meeting. The FBI is currently investigating the City Council over the deal as one staff member was recently outed on videotape accepting payoffs. Conyers appears to be at the center of the investigation, her longtime A-Team political consultant Sam Riddle no longer in her employ for unspecified reasons offering up tasty morsels like this, maybe the funniest heartbreaking truism I've read in months... "The only difference between Detroit and Third World nations in terms of corruption is that there are no goats in the streets in Detroit." Ouch. Gotta love how Conyers and off-the-clock members of the liberal "drive-by" media are conducting suspension-worthy business in a church, too, but that's an entirely different discussion for an entirely different time. Like, say, after Jesus comes back and separates the sheep from the goats Himself. Since Sam Riddle mentioned goats. In the meantime it looks like the free market and economic sanity is doing some separating of its own, namely, separating jobs and the prospect of jobs from Michigan. With every major automaker reporting massive sales declines for the month of June Michigan's largest and most important industry looks poised to take another devastating blow. Read on...
