Right to WorkBy Wendy Day, Section News
(Promoted by Nick...)
Facing down the potential multi-billion dollar bailout of the Big Three, it seems this is the perfect time to have the discussion of making Michigan a Right to Work State.
Making Michigan a Right to Work State would not only help the Big Three, it would help our schools and the Union members, like me, who are forced to join a Union and pay dues for services I don't want or need. Cross posted on Michigan Republican Party Watch
When it comes to rebuilding the Republican Party, Michigan's longest-serving governor says he wants to be involved. "I hope very much, as a result of this election just concluded, that the party will not take a further turn to the right -- it went too far to the right during the course of this campaign," Governor William Milliken said in a TV interview Sunday. "I hope now the Republican Party will rebuild itself ... that will include many factions and many elements and many philosophies within our party." Milliken, who was governor from 1969-1983, stresses that he's hopeful for the future of the GOP, which may include him returning to play a role. "I am going to do everything I can to help the party come back because it is in a state of flux at the moment - if not a state of near disaster," he said.

Bottom Up Politics: A True "Live Dangerously" Man
Hall of Record: Cheap at Any Price The RougBlog: Not Ron Gettelfinger Michigan SFE Blog: Business Leaders Agree: Profits Help Business The Western Right: Kalamazoo to Persecute Christians Saving the economy (and the Big 3) through creative law enforcementBy Nick, Section News
More tickets. That's the answer to the Big 3's financial problems. If you missed it late yesterday, Ron Gettelfinger, the man pulling the strings for Big Labor as they attempt to extort another $25 billion from Congress said the problem with Detroit's autos isn't that their employees make, on average, about $45 an hour (all in) more than the average Michigan / American worker, it's that the "economy" is in rough shape.
Now if I could only put my finger on the why... but I digress... back to tickets. The Detroit News managed to get some law enforcement folks on the record admitting what we've known for approximately forever... those speed traps and big dollar tickets for petty infractions aren't about safe streets, they're about making bank.
A Detroit News analysis of court and police records from 2002-07 shows many Metro Detroit police departments have drastically increased the number of moving violations issued in what some people say is an effort to offset budget shortfalls caused by the sluggish economy. Complain all you'd like, but rules are rules and these fees are, technically, avoidable. Admittedly, it gets difficult when you get a big dollar "5 mph over" citation because your cruise control wasn't precise enough and you were clocked doing 71 in a 70. And it's even tougher when a Lansing officer cites you for speeding because when she passed you driving the other way she noticed your brake lights flashed for a second. Oh, and then there's the "failure to stop" when you're the 7th car in a 9 car pile-up and your dream car has already been reduced to a pile of smoking rubble. ...Rassa-frassa-stupid-frassa... I'm sorry, what were we talking about? Oh, right, saving the economy through creative law enforcement. Read on... Check this out from The American Contrarian:
"If you have friends or loved ones in Michigan (which I do, since it's my home state), please forward them this post. They need to know that there's a conspiracy afoot to turn their state into the political pawn of radical millionaires and billionaires. Looking to Colorado, which has moved from red to blue in the 6 short years I've lived here, will confirm how effective such efforts can be. Michigan already is reliably blue, it's true, so the conspirators have less work to do than they did in relatively conservative Colorado. But the surreptitious nature of both efforts ought to alarm folks." more . . .
(1 comment) Comments >> SHOCK: Granholm - Cherry administration raising taxes on JOB CREATION!By Nick, Section News
The Ivory Tower reports this afternoon that the Granholm - Cherry administration's Unemployment Insurance Administration has just officially raised taxes on 40,000 employers (not employees) to the tune of $472,800,000.
That's $67.50 per employee in the state of Michigan. In other words, job makers questioning whether or not to keep an extra employee or two through the holiday season now have a half-a-billion reasons to lay off their workers. And kiss job creation in January goodbye. That's the month the tax hike will hit... why add a new job if you're going to get penalized for doing it? $472.8 MILLION in new taxes specifically targetting job creation. Today. They are LITERALLY raising taxes on new jobs. Create a job, pay more. And the next time you see me I will be bald from pulling out my own hair. (22 comments) Comments >>
