There is a black cloud, but I've already seen some liningBy rightwing26, Section News
The anger I've seen surrounding the tax hikes, is firmly placed where it belongs.
I have been out in the community today, and living in a small town, where everyone knows my political views, I have heard outrage over the new budget "fix". I have had numerous people stop me this morning and say that they can't believe that the Governor and the Democrats in the House would force these kind of increases on an already awful economy.
I understand how much this new budget plan will hurt, and nothing about it can be considered good. That being said, I think it has served as a wake up to many Michigan citizens. I think as political activists we often understand the failures of the current administration. However many who just go about their daily lives without much concern for politics, tend to ignore these things. This budget has changed that. This hits everyone in the state, right in the pocket book. I already see that it has created a true anger towards the mismanagement. Although for the most part conservative, sensable budgetary policy took a huge hit last night, we need to harness the outrage of everyone to create more interest and involvement. The posting that Nick put up showing the number of Dems who voted for the new taxes is a perfect illistration. We need to make sure people see it, and understand that even though two Republicans caved, the true basis was the Democrat leadership. This can be used as a perfect example of how the Dems are more worried about spending than the average person or family. The setback we are now faced with may be the very thing helps to return common sense to Lansing. We need to make sure everyone remembers this budget battle tough 2008 and 2010. The Democrats management may be our best campaign ad.
