Fair Tax Hope Grows With Anarchy

Below is an interview that FairTaxer/Representative Fulton Sheen had with a political insider news service in Lansing, MIRS.

Below that is an article I wrote that was published in numerous MI newspapers last week. Call your local talk show host and ask them to interview our spokespersons or officers or you about the MI FairTax and write letters to your editor for publication in your local paper.

While those around him are tearing their hair out in frustration over the
budget mess, Rep. Fulton SHEEN (R-Plainwell) sees opportunity in the situation.
Recall that Sheen's top policy priority is to make Michigan the first state to
adopt the Fair Tax, which is a consumption tax under which most other taxes are
eliminated in favor of a relatively high sales tax. His plan is to put the issue
on the statewide ballot in 2008.

MIRS conducted a brief interview with Sheen this week.

I believe that one of the most important aspects of the Fairtax may be that the
legislature will not be able to touch it with out a vote of the people. These
demi-gods that get elected are all facing recall. One out of three will be
missed and may have done a good job for Michigan. But the sentiment that I am
hearing inside state offices is that we should recall them all. The only thing I
have been able to get the mob to listen to is 'Don't forget the queen of all
this mess, and recall her too!'

While people are complaining about the new services tax, Sheen wants to implement an even more expensive sales and service tax!! I'm sure that will win voters over.

...the fair tax is the "prebate" check that is sent out at the beginning of every month.

If the rate was set to the correct amount, no prebate should even be necessary.

Other than I like the overall concept.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Fair tax would be completely laughable except that it hijacks the attentions of good but unfocused men like Fulton Sheen, changing him from a not-bad limited government advocate into just another irrelevant Fair Tax crank, leading a bunch of other irrelevant cranks on a pointless crusade.

That's not funny.

The benefits of a SALES TAX ONLY, which means that ALL OTHER TAXES ARE REPEALED PERMANENTLY (contrary to NoviDumbocrat), are numerous.

1. since the tax is only applied to NEW products, if you choose to purchase used cars, etc., you won't have to pay any tax (since that would be double taxation; the way Dems and Repubs do it now).

2. any money you give away is tax exempt. You don't have to worry about who the gov't approves of - if you approve, then it's a tax exempt donation.

3. any money that you put into savings is tax exempt. And you may withdraw and spend it without penalty - except of course the sales tax you pay on NEW purchases.

4. It would allow you to keep all that you earn, effectively giving you a pay raise, without costing your employer anything additional.

5. Prices would drop, as 40% of the purchase price of any item is tax (approximately). With market forces operating freely, prices would drop - but as noted above, wages would go up.

6. It should eliminate most of the black market. However, this is the only area where problems exist. The underground economy of earnings would effectively be eliminated, since there would be no withholding tax. Tax on purchases however could make a black market appear to be more appealing. The truth is, we already see this happening now. So, in spite of the black market on purchases, the elimination of it on earnings balances it out, I believe.

These are the benefits of a Consumption/Sales Tax. It puts the power of taxation back into the hands of the taxpayer rather than the Morons in Lansing (or DC for that matter). It is well worth looking into.

50%? (none / 0) (#7)

So your real worth to your employer is $50,000, not $70,000. Got it. As far as your salary, your salary is $100,000 solely because of those taxes. If your boss no longer needs to pay those taxes, he no longer needs to pay you that salary. And why would he? You were always willing to work for a lot less take-home pay. So why should he start paying you double? Sure doesn't make sense to me.

As far as poor people, any consumption tax falls disproportionately on them contrary to what you claim.

Why are you so thick? I mean, I've met a lot of Dumbocrats in my day, but I've never met one that is as stupid as you. Where did I say that I could go in and demand a pay increase tomorrow?

What I said, 3 times now, is that IF there was NO INCOME TAXES there would be NO WITHHOLDING. IF THERE WAS NO WITHHOLDING, my boss would have two choices: 1) pay me what he was paying for my withholding (he's already paying it "for me," withholding it from my check. It's part of his payroll), or 2) continue to pay me my TAKE HOME PAY, and save the $30,000 dollars that HE WAS PAYING "for me" out of my salary. That's called WITHHOLDING.

Do you have a job? Do you know what Withholding is? Do you understand what GROSS vs. NET income is?

I'm done explaining it to you. There's enough intelligent people around here who got it on the first round. Unfortunately, people like you are allowed to vote, and you can't even figure out the difference between Gross income and Net Income, and who pays what. No wonder you're a Dumbocrat.
