Gary Peters ineligible to run under Hatch Act?By studentsagainstgarypeters, Section News
The Peters Report on RightMichigan.com
Central Michigan University political science professor Gary Peters may be violating federal law by running against Congressman Joe Knollenberg.
The Hatch Act is a 65-year-old law making it illegal for federal, state and local government employees to run for partisan office if they receive any federal money, prompting questions about Peters.
CMU is a public school and receives federal funding, and there's no question that Peters certainly benefits by the federal dollars. Peters earns $2,031.25 an hour and taxpayer-funded perks as a full-time, temporary assistance professor of political science. He holds the Griffin endowed chairmanship in American government, which involves teaching once a week for three hours.
