BREAKING: Andy Dillon just canceled the House session today

They're taking the weekend off and coming back on Monday.  Nevermind we still don't have a balanced budget or that we're only 5 days away from a government shutdown.  Lets take a 3 day weekend!

Got something going on, Andy?  One last special interest golf fundraiser to attend before the snow starts falling?

After all, last night the Dems all bailed on targetting meetings and previously scheduled budget negotiations to attend a fundraiser in Detroit. Dillon's good at one thing, that's for sure... following the special interest money.

What a lame attempt at propaganda. I know this "site" is void of facts, and you will never let the facts get in the way of bashing more than half the state, but the Senate does not even have a session scheduled for today. I know why you didn't mention that, but I'd like to hear how you spin that.

You also know that the conference committees is where the real work gets done are meeting right now. Spin that.

Here's the House Meetings Schedule today  (Includes House and Joint Committees)
    Conference Committee on HB 4348
    Conference Committee on HB 4354
    Conference Committee on HB 4360

Senate Meetings Scheduled  (Includes Senate and Joint Committees)
    Conference Committee on Community Colleges
    Conference Committee on Corrections
    Conference Committee on Natural Resources

Not that I like defending the Speaker, but it's my understanding that session was cancelled because the Senate had decided not to meet.  There isn't really any sense in only passing half of the conference reports so they decided to just wait till Monday.

Which is probably why (none / 0) (#3)

the House Dems bailed on scheduled meetings last night.  Because the Senate wasn't going to be there... except, they were.

The Senate's put forward over a billion dollars in spending cuts over the course of these negotiations but the House keeps saying "no!"  One chamber is in order, the other is obstructing... and now they're leaving their work until Monday morning when they'll only have two days until D-Day

All three of those bills were overwhelming shot down during their most recent passage.

With a state shutdown only days away, someone who was actually concerned about preventing this from happening again would have gotten off of their sorry behind and done everything necessary to ensure that those bills were approved (i.e. stay in session), once they were discharged from committee.

Where are you getting this crap? Again, you certainly do not let the truth get in the way of your propaganda.

This is what Gongwer reported, "The House meanwhile took votes on some unrelated measures and then recessed until mid-afternoon.   An hour or so after that 2:30 p.m. call of the chair deadline had passed, House members were told if they weren't on a conference committee they could head home.   The same message was soon passed around to Senate members.
But shortly after that both legislative bodies adjourned and spokespersons for House Democrats and Senate Republicans said more work had to be done behind closed doors before the conference committees would meet again.   Several scheduled hearings for early Friday morning, but there is a question whether with the Senate gone those meetings will occur."

Gee, that doesn't sound to like: "House Dems bailed on scheduled meetings last night.  Because the Senate wasn't going to be there... except, they were." They were there doing what, attending a fundraiser? Where are they today?

What "over a billion dollars in spending cuts over the course of these negotiations" are you talking about? Even if that fallacy were true, it sill leaves $800 million to be made up. The Senate passed Senate Bill 511 by just two votes that would have caused the state to lay off some 1,600 employees, close prisons and cut revenue sharing to local government. But that still left a $798 million gap. Republicans in the House refused to vote for it; which the Senate GOP knew, making it easy to vote for it.

    -$600,000,000.

    OR, in other words...

A billion in potential cuts is six-hundred million more than needed to meet a required four-hundred million budget cut.

Bickering about it wasnt even scheduled? Thats ridiculous.. Whether they are 'scheduled' or not is 100% irrelevent. They should be there 24-7 in there Pajamas UNPAID to get this cluster %^$# done. They painted themselves in the corner.

It was agreed last month that before any conference reports for Appropriations bills are approved by either the House or the Senate, that there had to be agreement on the total budget.  That hasn't happened yet which is why the Senate isn't meeting until Monday.  There's no point for the House to be in session today without the Senate other than for political show.  I don't know about any Democrat fundraiser today, but in all fairness, we went up to Mackinac Island for our big weekend a month ago.

I wonder how long Andy "Double Dealing" Dillon can go without air with his head of Comrade Granholm's ass.

Nick, dude, I'm not trying to troll you.  I've been told the Democrat fundraiser was last night, not today anyway.  It was like a two hour evening deal.  While I don't like the idea of the Democrats cuddling up to trail lawyers anymore than you, it had nothing to do with the reason we didn't have session today.

There were targetting meetings on Thursday night.  "Negotiation" sessions.  The House Dems bailed at the last minute to hit a fundraiser in Detroit.
