    McCain's twisted logic

John McCain is a true war hero, no doubt; and he's far more than just any war hero. Everybody knows the record, and it's unquestionable that the man has guts as well as an almost divine sense of sacrifice.

Such greatness does not, though, translate into being able to reason capably; so it was with his statement about his campaign finances.

"If money mattered, I think (Nelson) Rockefeller would be president - would have been president - of the United States," the Arizona senator said in an interview with The Associated Press Wednesday.

Uhhhh, (tap on the shoulder), Senator? It's not a matter of having too much money, as it is of having too little. You're confusing a necessary with a sufficient condition -- a basic logical error. If you can't understand the difference, then how're you going to untangle more complex scenarios as president?

It might seem picayune to the average schmoe, but understanding and being able to explain such distinctions to the average schmoe is precisely the type of thing that can carry over in a debate and in the MSM -- it's what McCain needs to re-incarnate his campaign. If you want another example, look at Fred "No There There" Thompson. Talk about utter disappointments!

Rockefeller had more power and clout than any president ever had.  when you control the money supply, you control just about everything.

"The central bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the Principles and form of our Constitution. I am an Enemy to all banks discounting bills or notes for anything but Coin. If the American People allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the People of all their Property until their Children will wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered."

Keep an Eye On John McCain (none / 0) (#2)

Your point is well taken and right on the money (pun intended).

But I'd still keep a sharp eye on Mr. McCain.  He's not my candidate but his campaign is showing signs of life.  If he continues to perform well in the debates and on the stump, the finances will follow as will his improving poll numbers.  The question is, if his poll numbers go up, which candidate's numbers will go down?  Giuliani, Thompson, or Romney?  Hard to say at this point.

It's interesting that Mr. Romney had to cut his campaign a personal check for $8.5 million from his personal fortune in the 3rd quarter.  Romney raised $10 million in real contributions.

Giuliani won the 3rd quarter money race by raising $11 million in real contributions.  (By "real" I mean donations from actual contributors - not the candidate himself.)

I hadn't heard what Thompson raised but I'm sure he'll blame it on his late entry within the 3rd quarter into the Presidential race.  Meanwhile, he's putting them to sleep whilst on the stump.

Rockefeller had more power? (none / 0) (#14)

    Prattleon -

Was that before or after Standard Oil was broken up by a Government with less power than him?  Or maybe it was just a modern "David & Goliath" story.  You really think Rockefeller controlled the money supply?  Maybe you're thinking of JP Morgan, who tried spending his own money to curb the Great Depression by buying up stocks?  (I'm sure we all know how that one turned out...)

I'm glad to see you're moving onto the other "conspiracy nutcase" organizations.  Federal Bank, CFR... I'm waiting for the battlecry "The Bilderbergs are coming!  The Bilderbergs are coming!".
