McCain's twisted logicBy Lyman Redding, Section News
John McCain is a true war hero, no doubt; and he's far more than just any war hero. Everybody knows the record, and it's unquestionable that the man has guts as well as an almost divine sense of sacrifice.
Such greatness does not, though, translate into being able to reason capably; so it was with his statement about his campaign finances.
"If money mattered, I think (Nelson) Rockefeller would be president - would have been president - of the United States," the Arizona senator said in an interview with The Associated Press Wednesday. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071003/D8S21AFO1.html Uhhhh, (tap on the shoulder), Senator? It's not a matter of having too much money, as it is of having too little. You're confusing a necessary with a sufficient condition -- a basic logical error. If you can't understand the difference, then how're you going to untangle more complex scenarios as president? It might seem picayune to the average schmoe, but understanding and being able to explain such distinctions to the average schmoe is precisely the type of thing that can carry over in a debate and in the MSM -- it's what McCain needs to re-incarnate his campaign. If you want another example, look at Fred "No There There" Thompson. Talk about utter disappointments!
