Thanksgiving -- Michigan editionBy amanda zaluckyj, Section News
Turkey. Pumpkin pie. Family. Thanksgiving is here!
It might seem that living in Michigan, there isn't a lot to be thankful for - we have surging debt, a struggling economy, fewer and fewer jobs, and friends and family moving south. The situation seems pretty bleak moving into the holiday season. But despite all of this, I believe there are things, if not small, that we can all be thankful about. Trust me, on the list below is at least one thing that fits most Michiganders. And if none of these apply to you, feel free to add your own in the comments.
*Detroit and Flint were ranked amongst the most dangerous cities in the nation. I am thankful I don't live there.
*Even though my aunt, cousin, nephew, brother, and best friend had to move out of the state to find a job, I am thankful that my second cousin (twice removed!) still has his job. *My friend had to take on two more part-time jobs to pay for the increase in tuition this year. Thankfully, I am able just to take out more loans. *The guy two door down from me had to sell his liver on the black market to pay the rent this month. Thankfully, he lives in a cool city. *The Michigan courts ruled that we cannot allow the Michigan voters to hold a primary for the presidential election. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are thankful they have an "excuse" for turning away from Michigan. *The voters of Michigan re-elected Governor Granholm. Thankfully, I was not one of them and can now sport "Don't Blame Me...I Voted for DeVos" on my car. Ok. Your turn.
