State employees do NOT like Granholm
What on earth makes you think state employees like the governor? Yes, we got 2 cost of living adjustments the year she was up for re-election- the state was too stingy to give it to us all at once. For the first three years of her administration, we received miniscule cost of living adjustments , each of which she found was to take back from us- furlough days, layoff days, banked leave time, you name it. True, we received time off. Time off does not pay the rent, the food bills, or those higher medical co-pays. Meanwhile, she sat by and watched as our incompetent legislators accepted huge salary and benefit increases.
Soon after getting re-elected (God knows how, if state employees voted for her it was simply because she appeared the lesser of two evils) she threatened to lay us off to balance the budget. For months, we did not know what would happen with our jobs. She ignored the provision that we should have notice prior to layoffs. When she carries on in public and in e-mails about how great we are, we have learned to brace ourselves; we know that within a few days she will kick us in the teeth.
As we struggled to cope with work load increases and fewer resource (workers, state cars, etc.) Now, she is going ahead with useless, unwanted projects like the new state police headquarters while threatening more layoffs because of a looming "hole" in the budget. State employees are paid with tax dollars, but we are taxpayers too, and do not like waste and corruption any more than anyone else. I am not aware of any state employees who like this woman. She has made us the states new rainy day fund.
