Hypocrisy in Democrat-Led LansingBy John Galt, Section News
First, we hear that the state needs a tax increase. It's for the "good of the state" - but what about the good of the people?
Now, six companies announce plans to expand in Michigan. What prompted them to take the leap of faith?
Tax breaks provided by the MEDC.
According to the Detroit News, the plan will create 1550 jobs over 10 years. Not exactly the surge needed to pull Michigan ahead. But I thought we were supposed to be sacrificing for the good of the state? That we're paying a billion dollars more for programs to teach illiterate people to read, and train nurses? Are we paying more taxes to subsidize corporate expansions? Why, oh why, great Swami Granholm... why is it a tax increase is good for the other thousands of businesses in Michigan... but these six companies can get millions in tax breaks? What makes these six companies more special to you than the rest of the businesses in Michigan?
