The GOP controlled Senate Appropriations Committee voted along party lines to reject the EO and take a stand for Michigan families.  New taxes are NOT the answer to Michigan's problems and a structural fiscal crisis.  The Republicans on the committee felt governor Granholm hadn't looked for enough ways to trim the state's budget before asking taxpayers to trim their own pocketbooks.  The Democrats couldn't wait to get their hands on your wallet.

Thank God common sense carried the day in that room.

Meanwhile, the House Appropriations Committee, under the direction of Speaker Andy Dillon, voted in favor of the tax hike.

Remember how I said they weren't as smart as we give them credit for?

The writing was on the wall on this one.  Senate Majority Leader Bishop spoke to the press and wire services were reporting yesterday around noon, before any vote was taken, that the Senate would reject the EO.  Both the Senate and the House would have to approve the tax hike for it to take effect.

In other words, House Dems had nothing to gain by voting to raise your taxes!  But they did it anyways!

And now that vote is on their records.  For a few, their first serious vote in the legislature was to raise your taxes!
