Faux Outrage.By Jeremy Nielson, Section News
When our Governor hired a failed Congressional candidate for her husband... there was outrage. We're in a budget crisis, and we can't afford the $80k salary.
When our House Speaker proposes $38 million in ludicrous "mp3 player" spending, we were outraged. Now we're seeing even more cronyism in the Executive Offices. Despite hiring freezes and the Governor's proposed cuts to State Police, she's hiring cronies.
Yesterday's Freep article complains about the Attorney General spending $60k on a gym. Watch the Faux-Outrage from the Left!
I think most mainstream Michigan Republicans have been pretty consistent. The state can't afford it, we shouldn't spend it. We're outraged at an increase in taxes - just to waste the money on MP3 players. This fits with our ideology - the government spends too much money, and it should live within its means. So where does the Democrat outrage come from? Even if the $60k was not privately donated, why would the Democrats care? Wouldn't this qualify as a legitimate government expense? That's right, AG Mike Cox is a Republican. I'm ashamed I bit the bait. I started to defend AG Mike Cox because the spending was privately donated. I'm not ashamed of defending Cox, though. I'm ashamed that I missed the mea culpa from the Democrats. Or did I miss anything? At the end of the day, the Democrats still have not said there is anything wrong with overspending money during a budget crisis. They did not apologize for mis-spending our money. There was no mea culpa. There is the faux-outrage, the arm-raising to say "look at the hypocrisy". It made a great distraction, but the real story is why the Democrats feel spending tax money is wrong for Republicans, but buying non-essential MP3 Players is okay for Democrats.
