Another failed Democrat candidate, another paycheck at taxpayer expense

Even if she's not working in Michigan's best interest at least she's taking care of her buddies.

Several weeks ago now we were talking about how Being a Friend of the Granholm Administration Pays... Literally.

And while the MSM still hasn't asked the tough questions about Leo Lalonde's appointment as a recruiter for the state in violation of Michigan civil service guidelines, we can update you ourselves on the case of Mr. Mark Slavens.  Or should we call him the Honorable Mark Slavens?

    Read on...

Slavens lost in his bid to oust 7th District State Senator Bruce Patterson last fall and was sort of the odd man out as far as the back-scratching from the Granholm administration.  Just about every democrat who lost in November landed on their feet and now draws a paycheck compliments of Michigan taxpayers.

According to the Canton Eagle, the would-be Senator's time on the outs ended officially yesterday when he was appointed by Jennifer Granholm to the 3rd circuit bench in Wayne County.

Poor guy, she took so long getting around to this particular political payback that he had to go out and start a re-election campaign for his position on the Canton school board.  No official word yet on whether or not he'll step aside but he sort of has to, doesn't he?

    The Eagle notes:

Fellow school board candidate Kurt Heise said he should (end his campaign), though.

"Mr. Slavens must observe Canon 7 of the Michigan Code of Judicial Ethics," said Heise, also an attorney. "You can't be a Judge-designate and a candidate for school board at the same time. (He) can't campaign, solicit funds, or otherwise hold himself out as a candidate for any office other than judge."

But all in all that's a small price to pay for a nice plush gig wearing the black robe.

He joins Andy Levin, Carl Williams, Alexander Lipsey, Julie Dennis, Bob Emerson, Rich Brown, Mike Murphy, Chris Kolb and Bill McConico on the list of former democrat candidates or members of the legislature who've received a fat pay-day away from the House and Senate courtesy of the Granholm administration.

You can take the girl out of Wayne County but I guess you can't take the Wayne County out of the girl.  But it makes a guy wonder, what happened to all of those promises of a new way of doing things and an end to cronyism?

So when Republican candidates and office holders (1.00 / 1) (#1)

got jobs in the Engler administration and working for the Republican legislature, was that an example of Beal City cronyism? Or Grandville cronyism?

    so this too is John Engler's fault? (5.00 / 1) (#2)

Which former candidates and legislators did John Engler appoint within the first hundred days of a specific term as governor?  Don't just toss out random strawmen... you're better than that.  Back it up.

Give me some names.  You know me well enough by now to know that I'll call a spade a spade.

In the meantime, there's no putting this one on the former governor's shoulders.  Granholm walked into office promising to change tones and set ethical standards and it's all proven to be so much garbage.

But she's loyal.  See, I can say nice things about her too.
