URGENT CALL TO ACTION (Day 3)

    By Nick, Section News
Posted on Thu May 24, 2007 at 08:42:27 AM EST

Looks like today might be T-Day in the House.  (That's "T" for tax.  Clever, huh?  I thought of it myself.)

Late yesterday evening Dillon started prepping bills on the House floor and tie-barring them to an income tax increase.  He's claiming to observers that his caucus will have a full 58 votes.  It's our job to make sure he doesn't get a single Republican to go along with his plan to drive families and job providers out of Michigan.

Today is DAY 3 of our action alert.

You can check out our previous calls to action HERE, HERE and HERE.

We're asking everyone to stick with the battle plan, make one more call and send one more email today.  The response has been great and the message is being delivered loud and clear.  But there's a lot of work yet to be done.

Will you help send the message?  Will you help remind so-called "fiscal conservative" Republicans that you won't stand for tax increases but more, that you won't stand for your elected officials violating their principles, saying one thing during an election and doing another once they win?

Wherever you are, whatever part of the state you're in please do this RIGHT NOW:

    1.    Fire off an email.

    2.    Make a phone call.

We've called Senator Valde Garcia, Representatives Ball, Booher, Gaffney and Nofs.

If you're just joining us, please click the stories linked in the top of this article to find their email addresses and phone numbers and start with Reps Nofs, Gaffney and Ball.  Because while we were working, so was the Governor.  She continues to twist arms.

One guy to call today, Representative Lorence Wenke.

Representative Lorence Wenke (District 63, Calhoun, Kalamazoo Counties)
    Email: lorencewenke@house.mi.gov
    Office: 517-373-1787

    Government waste....... (5.00 / 1) (#1)
by PMOTVRWC on Thu May 24, 2007 at 10:41:09 AM EST
When Granholm says she has cut the budget to the bone she's lying through her teeth.

I was listening to the Frank Beckmann show this morning when he was talking to one of our legislators.  He gave two examples of government waste in contracts.  The first example was a contract that was signed for 57 million dollars in the year 2000, today that contract has ballooned to over a half BILLION dollars.  The second example was a contract with a consulting firm in Denver.  That contract was signed in 2002 and was for 5 million dollars.  Today, however, it has ballooned to over 200 million.

When our legislators say that they have cut the budget to the bone you know they're lying.

Michigan taxpayers deserve to know the truth and how mismanged our tax dollars really are.  We wouldn't need to raise taxes if we had legislators doing their job.  They are totally irresponsible with our money and we are letting them take more.  I THINK NOT!

    So I called Rep. Ball's office and..... (5.00 / 1) (#2)
by Juli on the Web on Thu May 24, 2007 at 11:28:06 AM EST
I asked his secretary if he was available, and she wouldn't tell me...she asked if I had a question, and I said no, I just have something I'd like to say.  I asked again if he was available, and she starts telling me that there is a guy who's gunna answer people's questions next week.  Then she asks what my question was...I told her, I don't have a question, just a comment, was the Rep. available? She finally asks me what it's about, so I tell her it's about tax hikes.  She then said, well we've been getting a lot of phone calls and he's busy trying to solve the Budget problem.  Then she asks for my number so the question answer guy can get back to me. I gave her my 616, and she says...are you out of a different district? and I said yes, and she HUNG UP ON ME!...

so, I called her back :) 'cause she still hadn't taken my message, she picks up the phone, and says, Yes Juli (like, wow I can't believe she called back) so I said, would you PLEASE tell the Rep. that I would appreciate it if he would vote no on the tax hikes? She said yes, I said thank you, then I hung up.

    People these days...I'm tellin yah.

Oh heavens.  I'm actually laughing out loud.

Not only at Juli calling the woman back after getting hung up on but at the troll for assuming there's ANYTHING that can justify a state contract getting that far out of control.

    One easy example (5.00 / 1) (#7)
by Spartyfan on Thu May 24, 2007 at 12:16:04 PM EST
How about the new State Police Headquarters building.  Maybe in flush times it can be justified, but as it stands, the new building will cost the state an additional $4 million a year.  Why not renovate the current HQ?

This is just one of dozens of examples.

And our Democrat is NOT in the know? (none / 0) (#10)

What a shock! Evidently it's not in the Democrats talking points.
