Tax Hostage Crisis - Day 3

Another report from the House balcony, another long day for legislators even
though the "Call of the House" has been lifted and lawmakers are allowed to
    leave the Chamber.

The 18% income tax increase bill has been up on the voting board all day. All but eleven Democrats are up as `yes' votes and all the `no' votes are Republicans. The eleven "missing" Democrats votes are all in the Chamber for the last few days and are now called "yellow Dems" and various other names because their name appears on the board neither green nor red, but yellow for not having voted.

These yellow Dems aren't pushing the red or green buttons because they are seeing pink. A giant pink Mr. Perks pig looms right out the window in front of the Capitol.

So, Democrat leader and Governor Granholm, in order to get their tax hike and protect the yellow Dems from being recalled, continue to offer Republican lawmakers personal deals - like job offers after they have been term-limited. No Republican vote has changed.

It is just past 10:30pm on this unprecedented Sunday session day. These Republican lawmakers have endured a three-day weekend of sleeping on floors, extreme boredom and endless rumors and offers.

I don't know what will end up happening the rest of the night and tomorrow, but right now, I am proud of these Republicans! Please find a way to call or email Republican House members and thank them for their perseverance. Urge them to keeping holding out against the tax hikes.

And then call Republican state senators and tell them to fight when they meet on Tuesday. Fight for spending cuts. Get friends to email or call. They need to hear from taxpayers right now more than ever!

...and as always, keep up the good work.

Since the weekend is winding down, and the democrats are still hell-bent on being able to spend my money better than I can, is there any word yet on another recall boot camp in S.E. Michigan?

OABTW, Do they still have Mr. Perks blocked in by the Lansing Fire Department?

that not one Republican House member or Senator will vote for $1.7 billion in cuts of any kind. So far, I've been proven right. Bishop doesn't have the guts to bring up the cuts in the Senate no matter where Leon's fat little friend is parked.

...given that the Senate wasn't in session this weekend, and isn't due to be in session for a few days.

And given the Speakers penchant this weekend for being a little...off, I'm actually not surprised that he didn't allow one of the Republicans to introduce an unrevised proposal from the Senate.

I know that the Senate isn't in session this weekend. Bishop had some golfing to attend to instead of focusing on the state's business. But my prediction is forward-looking, a concept that I know is beyond most Republicans to handle, in that I have zero expectation that Bishop will bring up his $1.7 billion "plan" to a vote before the full Senate. It's not going to happen. Since the House Republicans have already voted against $1.7 billion in cuts, my prediction is half-way home to being confirmed.

So let me get this straight... (none / 0) (#5)

...because House Republicans did not vote for the cuts proposed by the Senate, then the Senate will not vote for their own proposal?

Bishop will never bring the $1.7 billion in cuts to the full Senate. The Senate has never voted on the list. As far as I know, they weren't even voted on by the committee.

    Not surprising... (none / 0) (#8)

...since it unveiled late last week, and from what I've read and heard, the House was anxious to ram their tax hike through first.

Now that it has crashed and burned, the cuts that you're clamoring about might be coming sooner than you'd like.
