    The Peters Report on RightMichigan

Today's they said it: "CMU's vice president for governmental affairs said she saw this coming when the possibility of hiring [Gary] Peters came up." - ABC 12

For today's update -- the 201st day of Petersgate -- we look back at the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education hearing on February 22, which examined the controversy involving Democratic congressional candidate Gary Peters teaching at Central Michigan University.

Students Against Gary Peters testified in front of the Subcommittee, asking senators to delay any increase in funding for CMU until questions about Peters are answered and the situation is properly resolved. A video recording of the testimony can be viewed here.

The hearing was covered by The Saginaw News via a breaking news blog posting on Friday with above-the-fold coverage in Saturday's newspaper. ABC 12 (WJRT) also covered the hearing with a live report on Friday's 6 o'clock newscast:

There was also a front page story on the hearing in Friday's Central Michigan Life, and a follow-up piece is on the front page of today's edition of the student newspaper.

Out of all the publicity, the biggest shocker came in the ABC 12 story when school lobbyist Kathleen Wilbur defended the handling of the Petersgate controversy, including the professors who have maliciously attacked student critics, by saying, "I don't think any of us regret that or shy away from that."

    Fire Gary Peters (5.00 / 1) (#1)

I have followed this story for months now, and it continues to boggle my mind. I don't understand why Gary Peters hasn't been fired. He signed a contract requiring him to teach full-time for three years at CMU. He violated the contract by running for Congress. He should resign or be fired.

Is CMU this stupid? (none / 0) (#2)

I laughed when I saw the comments of CMU bigwig Kathy Wilbur who defended the actions of school when she said, "I don't think any of us regret that or shy away from that."

Does she really have no problems with the profs who have protected Peters by going after students with expulsion hearings? What about the profs who called conservatives mentally ill simply because they're conservative?

I seriously wonder who's in charge at CMU. They need some new PR people.

Apparently Peters was beating her in fundraising.  She now wants democrats to support him to beat Knollenburg.

    Kathleen Wilbur (none / 0) (#6)

Somebody needs to hand Kathleen Wilbur a handkerchief to wipe that brown, smelly gunk off her nose.
