Too bad HB5108 can't pass like these latest tax hikes...

HB5108 of 2007 would exempt Law Enforcement and Veterans with pistol training from taking the class normally required to get their concealed carry permit. Ironically enough, the primary sponsor is a democrat.

Makes perfect sense if you think about it - both groups are versed in pistol shooting, so why should they be required to take the class.

There are a couple of problems that I see with this proposed law though.

    1. It doesn't include those who are currently in the military. That doesn't make any sense. I had to go through pistol training during AT this past summer.
    2. It hasn't gone anywhere. People seemed happy rushing a tax hike through the legislature, so why not a law that would make it easier for people to defend themselves?

"But Jason", you might say, "Joe Citizen shouldn't be required to take the class either. Why wouldn't they have the knowledge and practice shooting?" My reply? I agree 100% that no one should be required to take their law, however, this is a start.

In fact, I would love to see Michigan head the direction of Vermont. Vermont citizens aren't even required to get a permit to carry concealed!
