Action Alert: Help put a conservative on the bench (and get paid doing it)!

My first full-time job in politics started just after Easter in 2004.  I'd interviewed for the front-desk position answering phones at the Michigan Republican Party a month or so earlier and was turned down flat but they needed a new field rep to work the lower peninsula and I was young enough, eager enough and willing to work for few enough dollars that things turned out better for me that second time around.

It didn't take long for my responsibilities to change and grow and I wound up organizing events for the Party for the rest of the cycle.  From State Committee meetings to State Conventions.  And since the Party is a formal organization there's a lot anyone in that position needs to learn and know.  So what's a relative novice to do?  Get to know the players in the Party and figure things out one step at a time.

There are good guys and there are bad guys.  Helpful people and complete wastes of energy and breath.  Then there's Eric Doster.

Doster is MRP's legal counsel (the longest serving legal counsel in the Party's history) and a fantastic guy with seemingly limitless patience for the thousands of ridiculous questions I peppered him with for years.  He's (relatively) young, uber-smart, conservative... and all possible hyperbole aside, he's one of the best men I've ever met.

In a day and age where we so often lament the absence of quality candidates and men of character in the political process this is a guy who's precisely what any recruiter would look for.  Which is why it's so awesome that Eric's decided to go ahead and give electoral politics a shot.

He recently announced his candidacy for the 4th District Court of Appeals.  (Think mid-Michigan.)

Folks here on the site love to decry the lack of quality candidates.  We love to collectively wring our hands when all we can seem to find are bums and dregs to fill this seat or that.  If you've ever wondered to yourself "where are the good guys" I'm talking to you right now so listen up.

We've got a chance to do something big here.  We've got a chance to help one of the good guys win an important seat on the Court of Appeals.  And for those of us who correctly complain about liberal judges playing the part of the legislature... consider this a calling.  Eric needs our help.

Before he can run, the man needs to get his name on the ballot.  He needs 6,200 or more valid signatures before the end of the month so get ready because I'm about to pitch you and pitch you hard.  Folks are getting together THIS WEEKEND to round up signatures so ask yourselves these questions...

    Love the Spartans?

    Love Football?

    Love free things?

    Love helping elect conservatives?

Love getting paid to do it?

Can you be in the East Lansing area on Saturday morning and early afternoon?

Can you please stop making excuses?

Can you honestly continue to think you've got the right to complain about anything if you're not willing to stand up for something when the opportunity arises?

See?  Told you I was going to pitch hard.

This Saturday, April 19th from 11:00 AM until 1:30 PM activists from across the State are going to meet at the Michigan State University Football Stadium where the Spartans are set to play their annual Green and White Spring Football game.  There'll be tailgaters out in full force and we're going to be there to ask them to help get Eric Doster's name on the ballot.

And, super-bonus, If you show up and help out you'll get a lot more than a warm fuzzy for doing the right thing.  Volunteers will not only get to check out the football game for free, they'll get free food and $1 for every signature they gather.

Yep.  You'll get paid.  Spend an hour with the crowd, bring back 20 signatures and you've got yourself a fresh $20 bill.  And let's be honest, unless you're one of those union guys down on the picket line at American Axle you're probably not making that kind of money during your day job.

But before Saturday rolls around go ahead and shoot me an email at RightMichigan@gmail.com and let me know how many of you are coming.  Bring friends, family members... you name it.  As long as you're a registered voter in the State of Michigan you can circulate these petitions.  And the more the merrier.  The game is expected to draw 26,000 people so making those bucks shouldn't be tough.

Get a hold of me today.  Should be a great time!

Put a conservative on the bench (none / 0) (#2)

I am going to try to make it.  Nick, we conservatives need to look at all seats that are up this term, and get more conservatives working FOR Michigan and our core values.  Carl Levin's Senatorial term ends this year as well as others.  Carl is uncontested thus far, as far as I can tell, but there is one who needs signatures on petitions by May 13...he is
Jack Hoodgendyk. Jack is a Republican who stands for the core principles our country was founded upon - Less Government, Low Taxes, and Individual Responsibility. His website: http://www.jackformichigan.org/

There is a downloadable, printable petition on his site.
