    Media amnesia

    That Meyerson fails to mention that Lincoln (you know, that whole Emancipation Proclamation thing) was a Republican is curious. But conspicuous by its absence is any mention that it was the REPUBLICAN PARTY, under Thomas A. Dewey, that embraced civil rights and equal protection under the law for all Americans as far back as 1948. Who, after all, sent federal Marshalls to defend the black children going to school in Little Rock? Dwight D. Eisenhower -- a REPUBLICAN. Meyerson's column is fitting in at least one sense -- he cannot escape the delusional, starry-eyed dreaming of hippies long enough to recognize reality.
