Tim Russert suddenly and tragically died this afternoon.

At a time when many in the press are not, he was fair. And that is really all one can ask.

He was a tough, tough interview, and he will be missed on our country's political landscape.

I would've loved to see if Tim would mention anything about this or if he'd given BHO another free pass.

Malik Obama says his brother will be good president for the Jews
    By JPOST.COM STAFF

Barack Obama's half brother Malik said Thursday that if elected his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background.

In an interview with Army Radio he expressed a special salutation from the Obamas of Kenya.

Somebody had better tell BHO's brother in Kenya that he's trying to shed his Islamic heritage image with those voting in America.

But a big thanks to Malik for removing any doubt!

    ALLAH FUBAR!

that in this "enlightened" age we live in a political candidate must distance himself and/or disavow a religious practice or belief in order to make himself more palatable to the "white right" religion.

you'd think we would have come farther than that in a couple thousand years.

your post is why i have no hope the human race will ever get it right and that we'll always be killing each other because "our god's the right god" crap.

    good grief.

the poster here took what could have been a respectful thread about a personality that both major political parties admired and got in a shot badmouthing russert because he didn't have the balls to call out obama on his religious views.

and that isn't utterly disgusting to you?

it about makes me want to throw up in my mouth.

i don't care if obama is muslim, christian, or if he worships the sun god ra. and any urging of the media to try to pin any candidate down on that (including romney and his mormonism) is bigoted. no other way to say it.

    oh, jump off (none / 0) (#8)

i'm sick of your stupid red herrings. address the ISSUE instead of attacking me.

what utter bs. a poster blasts russert for not blasting obama about being a GASP muslim--and you ignore that completely and get down on the person who rightly called that nonsense out.

again, I'm WHITE. and my family is full of CHRISTIANS! i think i can make a statement about MY     race and the dominant religion of MY RACE in this country.

    get the hell off it.

it's okay to make cracks about the muslim faith here--but not okay to make a crack about christianity.

    got it.

for the record, xenophobia is never okay, either.

you still haven't addressed my points other than repeated (and this is the embarrassing part) ad hominen attacks.

your ethos goes down with each successive post in this thread.

anytime you're ready to get back to addressing the valid points i've made in this thread, knock yourself out and go for it. in the interim, pray for me all you want. i sincerely don't mind.

    thanks.

Tim Russert was a true gem, an American original.

Even though came up through the ranks of the Democratic establishment, like most journalists do, he was excellent at doing his job.

He will be sorely missed, and I don't begrudge NBC the continuous coverage they've given his passing at all.

I can't think of anyone who can replace him, and politics and government reporting will surely suffer for it.

As to what this thread has turned into, I can say only one thing:

Knock it off.  Attacking Barack for supposedly being a Muslim, or questioning his faith isn't helpful.  Besided being harmful to him personally, and silly and irrelevant to why he shouldn't be president, it won't be seen as fair play.  And feeds into every stereotype about the right out there.

We have our argument as to why he shouldn't win.  His change is more of the same that hasn't, and will not, work.

We need to attach that to actual solutions, and we win.

Russert was an ok media figure, no more - no less. Tim was also GE Jack Welch's right hand man, which GE owns NBC so Jack merely put him into play.

    Here's a pretty accurate synopsis:
    http://cassandra2004.blogspot.com/2008/06/tim-russert-keith-oblermann-barack.html

As for Jug Hussein Ears... well, he's an empty suit liar and his half brother in Kenya just happened to tell the truth about Barack Hussein Obama (all the names being Arabic) being raised a Muslim. So his list of lies continues...

Being that this is America, I believe I am able to express my displeasure with Islam, and the conflicts of Islam that contains Sharia law has with America's U.S. Constitutional law any time I like.

goppartyreptile, hmmm... a snake is a reptile isn't it?

"The God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction. That these liberties are the gift of God? The bible is the cornerstone for American liberty."

    Do I understand you correctly?

Descriptive adjectives and given name used referencing a presidential candidate = BAD

Relevance with mispronunciation of a word = GOOD

What's not childish with that glaring duplicity? On the other hand, might this really be a relevant talking point that you've chosen that I just somehow fail to see.

Sorry you are so sensitive.  Yes, you can say what you want in this country, and so can I.

So, sorry if I offended you by mentioning that I like Tim Russert.  And most especially sorry that, while not even mentioning you or realizing you were posting to this thread, I just (correctly) believe that attacking Obama with rumours about his "Muslim heritage" are a waste of time, especially on a thread devoted to Tim Russert's passing.

Far be it from me to insert my opinion when you have clearly inserted yours, and it obviously must prevail.

Rather than think of a way to make fun of your "LX" moniker, I will just sit back in awe of your debating skills, and hope that someday--when I grow up-- I understand politics and how to persuasively argue as well as you do.

So, with that, please continue wasting everyone's time calling Barack a Muslim.

You are free to be idolizing anyone that you choose.

Matter of fact, I'm not the least bit offended or surprised with your similar Russertesque retort:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-kzrsPG6HI

As you stated previously, "Let's get back to the topic at hand". It wasn't I that stated BHO was raised Muslim, it was his brother.
