"Although the union has a controlling stake in the Democratic Party and legislative caucuses, it's smart politics for them to buy friends on both sides of the aisle."

so...isn't GLEP doing the same thing? lol...

    you've made the point... (none / 0) (#3)

    thank you.

but the difference is you consider your side's money, lobbying, pr to be more (somehow) "noble" and right (pun intended).

is GLEP going to be above board and list it's members and donors--or is this another shadowy right-wing group that's going to hide behind masks and under rocks?

One difference between GLEP and MEA - (none / 0) (#6)

Whatever its source, not one dime goes to glep that's not a voluntary contribution. In contrast, almost none of the MEA's money comes from voluntary contributors - it comes instead from school employees who have to pay up or lose their jobs. (I'm sure you pay willingly, Whatever - nay, eagerly. Good for you, but beside the point: What matters is that you have no choice in the matter.)

so i read here that people "must" contribute to mea pac in their work place or "lose their jobs..." then i read right-wing rants against tenure that essentially say teachers can't be gotten rid of short of them committing felonies. maybe they don't know it's so easy to get rid of them by just getting them not to contribute to pac? ;)

it must be grand to live in a world where you can have every side of every argument, depending the day, the weather, and the wind conditions.

furthermore, in all teaching situations i know of outside of 4-year-colleges, job status is directly determined by ADMINISTRATION. most of whom aren't unionized. by mea or other.

again, foolish, ignorant nonsense in this thread. come on! please at least try to secure some ethos and credibility for your positions instead of spouting erroneous and shallow and incorrect sound bites.
