Reason a day to avoid the Dem's petition like second hand smoke

Decreased representation and stronger centralized Lansing government.

Constituents per State Rep. (Current): 90,000
Constituents per State Rep. post-petition: 121,000

Constituents per State Senator (Current): 260,500
Constituents per State Senator post-petition: 353,500

The liberal extremist RMGN petition doesn't just eliminate judges and moderately reduce salaries, it goes to great lengths to strip power from our communities and centralizes that power in Lansing.

The Stryker / Soros ballot drive reduces the number of State Representatives from 110 to 82, a loss of 28.  It cuts the State Senate from 38 members to 28, a reduction of 10.

Currently there is one State Rep for every 90,000 Michigan residents.  Ninety-thousand voices each man and woman in the State House is supposed to consider, protect and defend.

If the extremists get their way your voice will be one of nearly 121,000 Michiganders they're asked to consider.

On the other side of the Capitol building there is one State Senator for every 260,500 Michiganders.  The petition scheme makes you one of nearly 354,000.

Substantially fewer folks in Lansing who are forced (via this nifty accountability device known as an election) to respond to our communities.

How often do we hear the left bemoan the dangers of overcrowded classrooms?  The same principle applies.  The more personal attention each constituent can be paid the more responsive the government.  This is simple math.  When each constituent represents a significantly smaller fraction of the interests in the legislative district his or her interests will be represented significantly less.

Now flip that around... with tens of thousands of extra voices in each district legislators won't just be tempted, they'll be forced to rely more heavily than ever on lobbyists and special interest groups.  And even more dangerously, the lobbyists and special interests will need far fewer votes to accomplish their personal pet projects.

The Michigan Democrats need to reduce the number of legislators for John Stryker to purchase to save him some money for other projects.

    What's so special about 90,000? (none / 0) (#3)

By your logic, we would get even better government with one legislator for every 45,000 residents.

    More Legislators = More Democracy (none / 0) (#5)

Hmmmm...let's see, the Michigan Democrats want fewer legislators and the Michigan Republicans want more legislators.  Seems to me like the Michigan Republicans are trending democratic while the Michigan Democrats are trending toward an oligarchy.
