Reason a Day RMGN is hoping you flunked grammar schoolBy Nick, Section News
![]() An unconstitutional constitutional amendment Michigan's constitution allows for citizens to use the ballot initiative process to produce singular and individual amendments to the constitution while employing the use of a constitutional convention for large-scale substitutes and rewrites. Article XII, Section 2 of the current, binding constitution states in part that: "...The ballot to be used in such election shall contain a statement of the purpose of the proposed amendment, expressed in not more than 100 words, exclusive of caption." The document goes on to state that "...every petition shall include the full test of the proposed amendment." Emphasis mine. I'm certainly not a grammarian but if Mrs. Bowman taught me anything in the 3rd grade it is how to differentiate between singular and plural. The word "amendment" is singular. The plural of the word would be "amendments." The extremist RMGN petition seeks makes no fewer than thirty-six (36) unique amendments, plural, effectively changing a full two-thirds of the legal document, clearly in violation of the Michigan constitution. I guess the shadowy drafters of the petition scheme could have benefited from tougher graduation standards. Which is the plural form of the word "standard," by the way.
