Obama "grateful" for Kwame (unless this "isn't the Kwame Kilpatrick" he's known)

So Kwame's going to jail, huh?  How long, do you figure, before Barack Obama tells us that this is "not the Kwame Kilpatrick I know?"  From the sounds of these remarks (delivered last May to the Detroit Economic Club) the Barackstar might have to do some back-peddling and soon.

You can check out the entire speech and the Democratic Mayor of Detroit's fawning introduction of the Democratic POTUS nominee HERE.  Interestingly, it sounds like Kilpatrick is an awfully frequent Obama fundraiser too.

If Obama does denounce Kilpatrick he'll be among the first.  Unfortunately it seems like Democrats everywhere are more than willing to turn a blind eye to criminality and lawbreaking... assuming the offender carries a DNC membership card.  Will Obama do the right thing or should we expect the same old partisan politics?

Text of Obama's tribute to Kwame below:

OBAMA: So I want to first of all acknowledge your great mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, who has been...

    (APPLAUSE)

... on the frontlines -- has been on the frontlines doing an outstanding job of gathering together the leadership at every level in Detroit to bring about the kind of renaissance that all of us anticipate for this great city.

And he is a leader not just here in Detroit, not just in Michigan, but all across the country.  People look to him.  We know that he is going to be doing astounding things for many years to come.

And so I'm grateful to call him a friend and a colleague.  And I'm looking forward to a lengthy collaboration in terms of making sure that Detroit does well in the future.

Must be the kind of "change" the anointed one has been referring to during his campaign! Now I understand....

seems like Republicons that live in glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones.

    Simple misunderstanding... (none / 0) (#5)

Obama was in fact referring to Kwame Wisnewski, a Democratic delegate from somewhere in the Thumb.  Typical of the racist Republicans to imply that he was talking about Kwame Kilpatrick.
