Update [2008-8-8 13:41:22 by Nick]:BREAKING word out of Lansing... rumor going around the Capitol City is that the Governor has canceled her scheduled activities for the afternoon and that she's preparing a statement re: Mayor Kilpatrick. Is she going to actually say something unflattering about the man? We'll see.

There's a ton of activity going on in various court houses in Wayne County this morning, all of it swirling around Barack Obama Super-Delegate and fundraiser Kwame Kilpatrick.  The latest low-lights:

  • Kwame is out of jail for the moment but has to front $50,000 cash to avoid the green jumpsuit.

  • Kwame has to wear a tether.

  • Kwame is NOT allowed to travel.  No Democratic National Convention.  One less delegate for the Barackstar.

  • Attorney General Mike Cox just announced two brand new felony charges.  Each a count of assaulting a police officer punishabable by up to two years in prison.

  • State Police troopers are waiting to secure the defendant after he posts his bond from that other court proceeding.

  • Number of felony indictments: 10.

  • Number of Democratic statewide and Presidential candidates demanding Kwame's resignation: 0.

  • Global perception of Detroit: Trending lower.

Good job, Kwame and pals.  Way to be!

    Governor Job Killer (none / 0) (#1)
by apackof2 on Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 11:51:25 AM EST
just yesterday (because of the growing national headlines) decided something needs to be about this disgrace however the Detroit's City Council voted 5-4 in May to ask Granholm to remove Kilpatrick from office because of his handling of an $8.4-million police whistle-blower lawsuit settlement.

I demand the trial be broadcast to the people of Detroit if not Michigan!

Taking Bets on who... (none / 0) (#2)

is going to get Kwame first...

    A) Attorney General Mike Cox
    B) Prosecutor Kym Worthy
    C) Governor Tax Us More
    D) Detroit "On the Take" City Council

I would lay the heavy odds on Mike Cox.

    Mike and Kwame (none / 0) (#3)

Could it be that Mike has finally seen the light and decided to participate in a more active role in ridding Detroit of the Thug Mayor? I hope he follows through with this.

    guilt by association (none / 0) (#5)

you should probably be a little more careful with your guilt by association, suggested by your blog title.  it kinda makes you look like hypocrite when it happens to repulblicans...and it does.  though with McCain it doesn't really matter because he's about as corrupt as kwame anyhow.  how he manages to avoid serious criticism about the keating five scandal, lobbyist scandals, breaking his own anti-free speech campaign finance laws, affairs, etc. is beyond me.  plus he has said good things about Bush. I wouldn't want to be associated with that man right now.

    Is Anuzis on Stryker's payroll? (none / 0) (#7)
by Rusty Shackleford on Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 03:32:32 PM EST
I'm beginning to wonder if Saul Anuzis is actually working for Mr. Stryker:

Saul Anuzis, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, said he would not encourage Republicans to use Kilpatrick's troubles as a political weapon. "I don't want to make it a partisan issue, because I don't think it is," Anuzis said.

Pressured Democrats speaking out - One-time allies end silence, some calling for mayor to step down, at least for the moment., The Detroit News, August 8, 2008

He wouldn't encourage it because he is a failure as a party chairman. This issue is one of the most gripping to the voters of this state, and yet the Republicans hide in fear of exploiting the fact that it has been the DEMOCRATS giving Kilpatrick a free ride.

And you all wonder why we keep losing ground in Michigan.

What did Pogo say about meeting the enemy?

    Mister Anuzis, a word . . . (none / 0) (#8)
by Kevin Rex Heine on Fri Aug 08, 2008 at 10:36:47 PM EST
    . . . please.

While I certainly agree that we should not make too much hay out of this, I suspect that you err in that the MIGOP should absolutely highlight (with a national-level highlighter) the complete and total failure of the MDP -- leadership and otherwise -- to police their own in this matter.  I mean, it's not exactly like this would be a surprise to any clear-thinking, reasonable American citizen, but it certainly would brilliantly compliment Comrades Pelosi's and Reid's systemic failures in properly leading their respective chambers of Congress to anything other than single-digit approval ratings (a record low, if I recall history correctly).  You want to turn Michigan red this cycle?  We have the means handed to us on a silver plate by the blue team themselves.  USE IT!!!

And before NoviD, Whatever, or some other silly leftist kool-aid drinker spouts off about Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), let me point out that Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK) has a demand for resignation in "hot standby" if the investigation (by the lawyers, not the press) reveals that such action is warranted.  Further, it was the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives that approached Richard Nixon and demanded his resignation . . . or they would lead the vote for impeachment.  And note that Jerry Ford, in talking Nixon into accepting that pardon, effectively got him to admit on the record to his own guilt.  (The legal precedent is: Burdick v. United States; go ahead, do the SCOTUS lookup.)

The point, Mr. Anuzis, is that, while we are not perfect on this, moral high ground isn't strictly necessary.  All we need to do is put the facts out there for examination in a way that they cannot be missed.  What, sir, say you?
