Jennifer Granholm for Secretary of Commerce!

So Bill Richardson is caught up in a corruption scandal, eh?  Big deal.  I mean, so what?  Another corrupt Democrat... sure, I'll acknowledge a simple, inappropriate satisfaction in watching a lefty Governor start to get his comeuppance but what does that really have to do with me... with US... here in Michigan?

    EVERYTHING!

President-elect Obama had tapped Richardson to be his first Commerce Secretary.  With Richardson suddenly caught up in his own tangled web of ethical foibles, we here in the Great Lakes state find ourselves with a remarkable opportunity--a second chance!

The week before Christmas when Governor Granholm announced that she wouldn't be heading to Washington, DC I don't know if there was anyone in the state as disappointed as me.  The official line, you'll remember, was that she "wasn't interested."  Now yeah, that official line came a few days after her hair dresser tattled to the press that the Gov was waiting by the phone for a call from the Obama folks like a debutant hoping to get asked to the senior prom, and yeah, the incoming administration wrapped up their cabinet selections a few hours after the Gov trotted out her spokeshack, Liz Boyd, to claim she wasn't interested anyways.

But this, boys and girls... this Richardson scandal, this is our second chance!

The way I figure it, the Obama administration and the people of Michigan can each do the other a major solid.  Listen, the Barackstar needs a new Commerce Secretary.  Michigan needs to get rid of the executive train wreck that is the Granholm-Cherry administration.  This is a clear win-win.

So let's help make it happen.

Yes.  I'm serious.  Below the break you'll find the text of a letter I'm going to be sending to Washington, DC later today.

I'd like to actively encourage each of you to follow suit with a letter of your own.  But we can't stop there.  Take a minute and shoot off a letter to the editor of your local newspaper today encouraging the Obama folks to grab Michigan's favorite step-daughter.  In the event the President-elect doesn't listen to RIGHTY bloggers we KNOW he listens to the liberal media... you know, when they're not in the middle of a long, loving, shiver-inducing embrace.

    Read on...

    Mr. President-elect,

We've got a dynamo up here in Michigan and you should really give her a second look!  She's a tireless worker... allegedly... and is really really really good at giving speeches and making public appearances.  Some have claimed that she's even... attractive... if that matters (and if it doesn't, mores the better because frankly, between you and me, I never saw it).

But this isn't about the woman's dubious aesthetic qualities.  Just look at her record!  In the six years since she took the helm here in Michigan, the United States of America has added nearly 8 million new jobs.  That's right... since January, 2003 when she first took the oath of office the United States job market has grown by almost 8 million.  And that includes the recent slide!

Think about it, Mr. President-elect!  8 million new jobs is a big number.

Yes, granted, while the United States added 8 million new jobs the state of Michigan actually lost about 350,000, net, but here in the Mitten the majority of voters prefer not to look at that side of the ledger.  We've got a word for people who get hung up on that state job loss number... they're what the administration likes to call "Naysayers."

You don't want to be a naysayer, do you, Mr. President-elect?

Besides, Michigan's staggering job losses over the governor's six years in office thus far are a state statistic.  That's right, they're isolated to the state of Michigan.  Outside of Michigan, nationally, in other words, there have been 8 million NEW jobs on Jennifer Granholm's watch.  You are a learned man and understand that the Commerce Secretary is a national figure operating on the national stage.  So you can see, clearly, that the governor's track record on the state level is insignificant since she won't be operating on the state level.  Look at the national trend during her term and you'll know you've found your girl!

I can hear your next question already--if you take Jennifer Granholm from Lansing, will we be able to survive her absence here in Michigan?

Can I be honest with you?  It will be difficult.  We'll miss that winning smile and that breathy voice and darn it all if we won't miss that national job growth that happened while she was the "Captain of our ship."  (If I have faith in anything it is in our Governor's ability to export her particular brand of economic... achievement... wherever she goes.)  But there are several factors that have me convinced we'll find a way to survive.

First, here in Michigan we're tired of being national leaders.  During Jennifer Granholm's tenure we've led the nation in job losses, in outbound moves, in hotel vacancies, in the exporting of college graduates and the growth of both taxes and poverty.  We might make it look easy but trust me, its not always easy being on the top!  Frankly, we're ready for a break and with Granholm helming economic policy we know the rest of the nation will catch us soon!

Second and maybe more importantly, we still have the Gov's successor, LG John Cherry.  I've spoken with plenty of liberals and Democrats and they assure me that John Cherry will be more than capable of picking up right where Jennifer Granholm leaves off and that he isn't just capable of being Governor but should and will be our next governor.

I know, I didn't buy it at first either, but they insist they're content with him following in her footsteps.  For some strange reason they CLAIM that they have faith in John Cherry.  Don't you?

Well here's your chance to prove it.  President-elect Obama, nominate Jennifer Granholm as your next, first Secretary of Commerce.

    Sincerely,

    --Michigan

I wouldn't wish her upon the nation just to get rid of her from Michigan, although there may be objective advantages to having a Michigan leader in the cabinet.

Barack, she'll blow you away.  She'll blow everyone away.

If you were Bill Clinton, you might derive physical pleasure from that, but ...

I'm just speechless after reading this.

I would miss her soooooooooo bad. She makes me feel like  the day after a night of heavy drinking and going to White Castle  on the way home and eating God knows what. Ohh and when you wake up you have that 'Crap" taste in your mouth.

That's how our governor makes me feel.

And I don't know if i can give that up, I mean the majority of this fine state did elect and re-elect her twice.

We kind of deserve her, ( or at least the tools her voted for her do )

    Um, yeah.

When Jenny had the opportunity to appoint a COO to help boost the efficiency of this state and, hopefully, to make it a more attractive place to do business, she hired a labor lawyer with a thick resume in creating government regulation. With that kind of judgment I don't think we should encourage her influence on the whole country.

Nope, I don't think I want this Canadian born, California raised, East Coast educated, Michigan squatter representing me at the nation's capital.

Let her die a painful political death trapped right here in Michigan like the rest of us. In fact, she should be forced to live where she can experience first hand the fruits of her labor.  Let her stay behind as the houses on all sides become vacant, the factories close, the schools empty, and the remaining population ages beyond retirement.

Jenny at the Department of Commerce?  Then again, maybe commerce does not mean what I think it means.

What happens when the Czarina flys off to DC? We are left here with her mess and that big dolt John "Never heard of him" Cherry. He seems to be a bigger dunce then the Czarina herself. I can't see where we gain a thing.
Personally I would rather have the interloper remain here to be a reminder to every idiot, union thugh and DailyKos type left winger, all recently unemployed hopefully, that Democrats are losers. They are incompetent, corrupt and worthless when it comes to doing anything that requires them to produce actual results. To them intentions are the only thing by which they should be judged. We see the results of Democrat intentions as far as Michigan is concerned. If this is what they have in store for the rest of the country then maybe a brighter day is just around the corner. We can hope, but we must prepare and work for that day.

    Granholm to Washington (none / 0) (#8)

I never thought I'd say it, but I hope she doesn't go.  Cherry could be worse, and it gives him two years to establish himself as an incumbent.

Nick, I like how you think, but do you really think this is the answer?

Is John Cherry any improvement over Jennifer Granholm?  I think not.  Mind you, this is hardly an endorsement of Granholm.  My remark stems from the fact that Two Penny Jenny has a reputation and a following among the liberal establishment in the media and on the hill in D.C.  John Cherry has, in the past, proven to be every bit the tax and spend liberal as Jennifer Granholm.

When you add the fact that a Granholm appointment makes John Cherry listed as "Incumbent" on the 2010 Gubenatorial Ballot, a possible Granholm appointment to Obama's team looks even less of a good thing to me.

I like this.  Export her to Washington like so much Canadian Trash, sabotage the new Obama administration and ensure a conservative win in '12, and get an even (potentially) bigger loser as our Governor for a couple of years, ensuring a regime change in 2  years.

    Time to write the papers...

    Incompetent Granholm (none / 0) (#12)
by Victor Laszlo on Mon Jan 05, 2009 at 01:18:52 PM EST
Jennifer Granholm is the most incompetent governor in Michigan's history.  I hardly think Barack Hussein Obama would be stupid enough to nominate such an incompetent to a cabinet position.  Such a nomination would only make a mockery of Obama's administration.

Granholm's destiny will be to ungracefully exit the public stage in two years as Michigan's most unsuccessful governor.  Whether Granholm can find a way to continue to feed at the public trough compliments of the taxpayers is another issue.  However, I seriously doubt Granholm will be able to easily adjust to life in the private sector where she has never held a real job.

the natural inclination is to want her gone but
she is so disliked now that I think (hope)she almost guarantees a Republican Gov next time

But then again that begs the question,"Who will be the Republican candidate?"

Even with her record, the wrong candidate & those Union dollars...

would vote for an incumbent goat if he/she was doing a good job, or rather doing their job. Is it really worth having a republican idiot(rare) instead of a democrat who does a good job(also rare) just to have your "horse" win the race??

Many Michigan GOP politicans were there to support the Big 3 loans, If they keep their youtube video clips of their statments ect.. they can haul that stuff out at election time and remind the voters. They were there to protect their voters jobs and industry. Will it be enuff??? Who knows, I think for a GOP candidate to win in Michigan as governor, they might have to flush some of this free trade stuff down the toilet, take a more Nationalist stance on trade issues, Change the state motto from "Great Lakes, Great Times" to " If it ain't a Ford, GM, or Chrysler it's FU@%&NG crap, and you should'nt be driving it". or maybe "Your Import sucks!!!"
