    Uh-oh, look what we started

Yesterday I posted a letter to the President-elect, strongly suggesting he tap Jennifer Granholm to be his next Commerce Secretary (tongue firmly planted in cheek) and by late yesterday afternoon the Associated Press was quoting an anonymous "some" as saying that the Gov would make a fine pick for the fancy DC nod.

Granholm has made seven overseas trade trips during her six years as governor and has been a vocal advocate of alternative energy and the domestic automakers, they reason.  Now, granted, those trade trips might also second as pretty nice family vacations, were a cynic to analyze them, and her advocacy for alternative energy and the domestic autos hasn't exactly set the world on fire here in Michigan, but those are minor and unimportant details.

    Read on...

The fact that the new auto sale numbers for December paint an even steeper fall than the dramatically poor year-long 2008 numbers should be entirely discounted.  The Detroit News reports:

Demand weakened progressively, with sales tumbling dramatically in the final three months, including a 35.5 percent drop in December for an annualized selling rate of just 10.2 million vehicles, down from 16 million in 2007.

While all major players on Monday reported double-digit declines for December, Chrysler LLC's sales plunged 53.1 percent, likely raising fresh concerns about its survival prospects.

If that doesn't scream "give that woman a promotion" I don't know what does.  Besides, that's just the auto end of the AP's equation.  She's also, they remind us, made a bunch of overseas trade trips.  Although, I guess those haven't always worked out so hot either.  The Ivory Tower reports this morning, for instance, that a bit of a snafu from one of these big foreign investments the Granholm-Cherry administration loves to trot out and claim as their own didn't just fall through... it actually did serious damage to a Michigan company's bottom line.

Lubrizol Corp., the world's biggest maker of lubricant additives, acquired Dow Chemical Co.'s thermoplastic polyurethane business for an undisclosed price.

The product line had revenue of about $85 million in 2007 and will become part of Lubrizol's Estane Engineered Polymers unit, Wickliffe, Ohio-based Lubrizol said Monday in a statement. The acquisition was completed Dec. 31.

Dow, the largest U.S. chemical maker, fell 20% last week in New York trading after Kuwait canceled a plan to buy half of its plastics unit for $9 billion. Dow had planned to use cash from that transaction to help complete its $15.4-billion purchase of Rohm and Haas Co.

That Kuwaiti purchase was supposed to include investment here in Michigan, too, and fancy new jobs.  Now, Ohio, say hello to your new additive manufacturing operation.  Additive operation, say so long to Midland based Dow Chemical.

You or I, if we were putting together a resume detailing our skill set and successes in the field in which we were seeking employment... we'd probably avoid talking about things like this.  They aren't exactly blue ribbon awards or shining leadership moments.

Unless, of course, you're talking to the Associated Press here in Michigan.  And the concept of a biased, liberal media is clearly a myth.

. . . perhaps not too bad.  Auto parts plant workers in Grand Rapids are pink-slipping their UAW local, and we're actually looking at the possibility (third time's the charm) of have Governor Incompetent being replaced by Lieutenant-Governor More Incompetent.

Her spokeswoman said Monday Granholm says she'll remain in office the final two years of her term.

Nick, what's the over-under that she's in DC by Friday?

The upside of this is that the State Senate picks the replacement for Cherry's vacancy; and, as I reported on December 22nd, State Senator Mark Jansen would love to see that be a Republican.

Seriously, think about it, Governor Whatshisname . . . it's not like we aren't used to high profile incompetence here in Michigan.

Granholm GM'ing the Lions is a better idea.  She couldn't (literally) do worse, and if they continue to lose, no one's jobs or lives are at stake and the people of Michigan have 50 years of being accustomed to the current state.

If a wastebasket in your room is on fire, you don't throw the burning wastebasket in another room of your house and think you'll be ok for long.  If you have a ticking nuclear bomb, you don't hand it to your neighbor and walk away expecting to survive.

The current track being put out today is that Washington Governor Christine Gregoire is going to be offered the job.She has canceled some appearences in the state and is said to be in Washington, DC. Since she is very adept at stealing elections so she has all the qualifications that she needs. Granholm on the other hand is like a three day old fish on a hot August day. She stinks to bad to bring into the cottage. Obama isn't all that bright as we see by his pick for CIA but he isn't that dumb. Granholm doesn't sparkle anywhere but here in the Soviet Socialist Republic of New Siberia. No, the little Czarina will be here at home in her little province of pain and want for at least another two years.

No where else but in government could a person with a track record of such dismal failure be considered for a promotion.  Even the auto companies purge managers that suck as bad as Granholm does.

I agree with LFR though, no way does Granholm get this job.  Obama isn't that big of a fool.  Watch out for a federal judgeship, however, once she has done all the possible damage to Michigan's economy that she can.

I'm hoping for the 9th circuit. She might even be the conservative on that bench.  California could use the help.

You know, we can have fun with this. (none / 0) (#5)

    Quick!

    Someone make up a story.

Don't worry about any "specific" details!

Just make the whole darn thing up that puts her in a negative light (ran guns and killed with Che Gueverra, sold drugs to Ozzy Osbourne, promoted investments for Madoff, had an overdue book at the Lansing Public Library...make something up).

Then anonymously post it on a blog that was quickly created, and send the link to it to the MSM.

    Presto, allakazam, wowwee!

Her Washington dreams will be quickly quashed faster than you can say "Blown away".

    :)
