What a shame it is that the Majority Party in Lansing, need guidance with their allowance like little children require, but thank God for the Good People at Americans For Prosperity looking out for us taxpayers in Michigan, with 13 tour stops around the state.
First Tour stop:
Don't Raise MI Taxes Tour Stop (St. Clair Shores) Thank you for your ongoing efforts, Mr. Hagerstrom! As noted from an mLive screed, it should be highlighted who the Legislator held responsible for the latest MIaGOP Tax Hike scheme on Michigan residents.
A new plan taking shape in the state House, spearheaded by Republican [questionable] Rep. Wayne Schmidt of Traverse City, is expected to include increased gasoline taxes and registration fees. The proposal also would exempt fuel purchases from the state's six percent sales tax, which is collected at the pump but is not used to fix roads. Congratulations, District 104 voters. Feeling dumb about sending Wayne "Show Pony" back for another term in Lansing, yet? I doubt it. But wait, there's more!
House Speaker Jase Bolger, R-Marshall, signaled support for the plan on Thursday, telling reporters that the legislature must "be committed to solving the full problem," including making sure that all taxes paid at the pump go toward roads. What were your words about raising taxes, Speaker Bolger?
"Taxpayers should be the last place we look". Never did look here, did you? You can run, but you can't hide, Mr. Speaker. Methinks, I hit the bullseye with the accuracy of both assessments. By Corinthian Scales, Section News
After losing the 76th to Winnie the poo by 59-31%, along with four other seats, one would think that the Caucus would've been smart enough to know better. But, like with most all that "Team R" justifies what does... it was the right thing to do. (2 comments) Comments >> By Corinthian Scales, Section News

Governor Rick Snyder has cut a radio ad urging voters in Kalamazoo and Calhoun Counties to re-elect House Speaker Jase Bolger. The Marshall Republican is running for re-election against Democrat Bill Farmer. The Gongwer News Service (subscription required) reports that the ad was paid for by the House Republican Campaign Committee and authorized by Bolger's campaign. The ad is seen as another sign that Bolger is facing a tough re-election fight. Democrats have made an issue of his involvement in a plan to put a "straw candidate" on the ballot to help State Representative Roy Schmidt's re-election chances in his Grand Rapids district. Schmidt switched from the Democratic to Republican party right before the filing deadline.
Party over Principle, "but they were the right things to do". By Kevin Rex Heine, Section News
I'm pretty sure that I don't need to explain the scandal involved in Roy Schmidt's (literally) last minute party-switch in the 76th House District election this year, nor the fact that said scandal nearly cost him primary re-nomination. Of course, anyone wanting to know something that isn't posted on this site can always check out Christine Barry over on BFM. What I do want to talk about, however, is something that I mentioned briefly about two days after the primary, in that iCaucus Michigan would be getting involved in the general campaign in this district, and I'd like to tell you something about the guy they decided to endorse.

From as far back as I can remember, up until the summer before my freshman year of high school, my paternal grandparents lived two houses down from the house where I grew up (and where my parents still live). Having raised six children of their own, they were well-equipped to assist my mom and dad when such assistance was needed, including teaching object lessons to their grandchildren as necessary.
One such lesson that I remember well occurred when I walked into my mom's kitchen complaining that my brothers' and sister's bedrooms were absolute pig stys. Because my mom was busy (canning vegetables if I remember correctly), my gran-ma - who was assisting - offered to take a look. Sure enough, standing there in the upstairs hall, she was looking right through a pair of already-open doors into bedrooms for which the description of "disorganized" would have been charitable. However, it also occurred to her to open the door to my bedroom and see what might be seen. While my bedroom was noticeably tidier, it was nowhere close to her exacting standards. This observation was followed by my grandmother fixing me with a no-nonsense look and saying rather sternly, "I should think, young man, that before you go complaining about someone else's room, you ought to first make sure yours is clean." Point made; lesson learned; end of conversation. And now, to apply that lesson, we should grab some coffee and duck below the fold.
