    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Democrat Justice Hathaway Scandal Grows

Following up on the story below, the Michigan Republican Party issued a statement concerning the latest news reports about the U.S. Department of Justice filing a civil suit alleging Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway laundered money and committed mortgage fraud.

Matt Frendewey, director of communications for the Michigan Republican Party, issued the following statement:

"Democratic Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway must protect the integrity of Michigan's judicial system and immediately resign.

"Justice Hathaway's real estate scam involved transferring properties out her and her husband's name into the name of their children in order to obtain a short sale. Her actions are offensive to the many Michigan families who have faced difficult times during Michigan's economic down turn. As a justice on the highest court in Michigan, Hathaway's involvement in the alleged scam, the FBI investigation, and today's complaint undermines her ability to affectively sit in a position of judgment over Michigan citizens and the state's judicial system.

"Swift and immediate action is required before Hathaway's scandal scars the highest court. I can only hope that Michigan Democratic Chairman Mark Brewer, a lawyer himself, recognizes good policy must trump partisan politics and will join the Michigan Republican Party in calling for Justice Hathaway's resignation."

Brewer is likely hiding at this point.

As far as I am concerned, they should go in and handcuff her right off the bench if she does not resign ASAP.

Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway faces allegations of defrauding her bank by hiding assets to unload a $1.5 million Lake St. Clair home on a short sale and escape $600,000 in debt, The Detroit News has learned.

U.S. District Attorney Barbara McQuade filed a civil complaint Monday in Michigan's Eastern District seeking forfeiture of Hathaway's posh second home in suburban Orlando, Fla.

McQuade charged that Hathaway and her husband, attorney Michael Kingsley, "systematically and fraudulently transferred property and hid assets in order to support their claim to (ING Direct) that they did not have the financial resources to pay the mortgage on the Michigan property."

The complaint claims Hathaway and Kingsley engaged in money laundering, but neither has been charged criminally in the case.

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (WJBK) - Remember we told you about Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway and her property shell game?  It involved four houses, her stepchildren, a mortgage on a Grosse Pointe house she didn't want to pay anymore and now a federal grand jury.

She's not the only Judge Hathaway who's got problems keeping her houses straight because now we've come to find that her daughter, Dana Hathaway, who was just elected to the Third Circuit Court, has her own issues with shuffling property and shorting the tax man.

    Obamacare mandate blocked.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette today announced that a federal judge has issued a ruling blocking the implementation of a controversial U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate that would force religious employers to violate their religious and faith-based beliefs by providing insurance plans that cover services, including abortion-inducing drugs, that conflict with those beliefs.

The ruling comes in a lawsuit filed by Michigan-based Weingartz Supply Company and Legatus, an organization of Catholic business owners, to defend religious liberty and challenge the unconstitutional Obama administration mandate.  Schuette filed an amicus brief in support of the plaintiffs on September 27, 2012.

"Religious liberty is America's first freedom," said Schuette.  "Any rule, regulation or law that forces American employers to violate their free exercise of religion is a flat-out violation of the First Amendment and federal law, including the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

"This victory is an important step in defeating an unconstitutional mandate that will force private sector job-providers across America to violate their conscience.  The First Amendment applies to everyone, and we must defend religious liberty for all, not just the chosen few dictated by the federal government."

    Our tax dollars at work...

LANSING, Mich. - Secretary of State Ruth Johnson reminds residents that all SUPER!Centers as well as select PLUS and traditional offices will remain open on Election Day for customers who must conduct urgent business on that day.

Most state government offices will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 6, because of a 2004 agreement with labor unions made by the administration of then Gov. Jennifer Granholm that makes Election Day a state employee holiday. However, Johnson is keeping several offices open with minimal staffing.

    Rest
