The idea that another bank could be set up to operate somewhat like the Fannie-Freddie banks that were responsible for the biggest crash in our economy since the depression is a real hoot. Its especially funny when you have a gubernatorial candidate in Michigan suggesting Michigan taxpayers can foot the bill.
Virg Bernero says "it would be a lending "backstop" and be used to help ease the current credit crunch. " Suggesting bonds and state funds be used to create the bank.
As one of our esteemed writers posited two days ago: "What Virg seems to be unable to fathom is that the credit crunch is the result of stupid government busybodies like himself not only enacting regulations that enticed lenders to play Texas Hold 'em with depositor's money, but also pronounced the gamblers too vital to the American economy to fail. Their wise intrusions into what should be a private enterprise have tightened the credit markets so thoroughly that even the Chinese are starting to tire of our panhandling." A gamble. ..and at a table where ALL the players are supposed to win... (3 comments, 600 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News

Democrats hoping to turn a recent "discovery" by a maid after a Republican gathering into gold for their party might want to settle down and think about some other things politic. Excitement over a presentation to Republican leadership should fade fast when put to contrast with Democrat collusion efforts, cover ups and open deceit. Politico reports:
"The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on "fear" of President Barack Obama and a promise to "save the country from trending toward socialism." Politico's piece has sparked a number of lefty blogs, who are looking for anything they can find to turn attention away from the FAIL Obama policies and the current debate on the monstrous government health care takeover. Using a paltry 2 pages from the presentation found, Democrats have begun to rail on Republican efforts to milk the rich donors based on the fears of this country turning to socialism etc.. But at the same time ignoring that many donors were AT THE RETREAT where the presentation was made. (7 comments, 756 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
While we might not yet rest easy, it should be noted that the Republicans did as well a job as could have been expected. In fact, demonstrated they were prepared for the meeting in a way that showed the country that there are other alternatives to a top down take over of our health care decisions. A fine performance indeed.
Congratulations to our (Michigan) Representative Dave Camp, and the excellent performance of the GOP leader Boehner, Ryan and company. Please don't think it is done however. If you think the arrogance of the left which was on display in full living color streamed over the TV and on line will settle for a drubbing as a reward for their pitiful poetry reading of the victims of real life, you might think again. The smell of complete control over a 5th of the economy is a political aphrodisiac of inordinate measure. It makes them HOT. (2 comments, 416 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Michigan's Democrat party saw its choices thin again as a result of another gubernatorial candidate inserting toes and coming out with a case of frostbite.
In a year that will likely bring strong gains for conservatives and republicans alike, it appears there would be little gained even for name recognition by the bit players in the Democrat left. Former treasurer Bob Bowman took one look at Michigan's finances, the party in power and said.. umm yeah.. I don't think so... From the Detroit News:
Bowman formed an exploratory committee last week but said in his statement he was compelled to do so because he had spent over $500 in considering a bid. But there exists nothing so compelling to bring the former Michigander back home to give it a go for the top executive office. Who needs him anyway right? The Democrats are still trying to find a suitable alternative to Andy Dillon, who no longer passes the Union Leadership "smell test" as a result of his suggestions that insurance for state workers be reformed.
Received from the Michigan Republicans:
Lansing, MI--As Bob Bowman filed his paperwork for a Democratic gubernatorial bid, the Michigan Republican Party warns Michigan families to guard their wallets. (4 comments, 217 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News

If you haven't heard, Michigan has been in a recession. In fact, it has been an ongoing problem for about 5 or 6 years. The funny thing is, though the country is now getting a taste of what Michigan has endured in that time, there will be many throughout the country that have the same willful ignorance of the cause of their malaise. Sadly some of the most skilled orators are the most deceptive. Trusting her judgment is not an option any longer. In fact, there is nothing redeeming about the miserable failure Jennifer Granholm and the machine which placed her in the driver's seat of the work truck of the nation. Michigan needs a mechanic pretty badly now, as the brakes are shot, the tank is 3/4 empty, and we are running on 2 flat tires.
Tomorrow, Jennifer Granholm will tell us we need to re-upholster the seats however. . (11 comments, 342 words in story) Full Story By steve, Section News
