In an unexpected move, Former Congressman Bart Stupak has endorsed across the aisle, and named Jason Gillman the man to beat for the governorship of Michigan.

Speculation ended only yesterday, when the 1st district Democrat declared that he would rather run against fellow first district citizen, businessman, and author Jason Gillman, for Governor of Michigan, than he would against the current incumbent Rick Snyder.  "My goal is to win back the state for Democrats, and I think I could actually beat Gillman," Stupak said. "And anyhow who is that guy?"

Stupak's campaign manager Dennis Lennox was hired by the former trooper and legislator after it was determined that he was personally responsible for a long string of Republican losses. Lennox reportedly said "What can I say? Its not everyone who has such consistent results," and when questioned about his last paying job, he simply replied "please talk to my attorney."

Stupak was recently recruited by Michigan Democrats by newly installed Dem Chair Lon Johnson. Johnson who lives in the 1st district apparently still 'owed one' to the former congressman not for political favors, but from "that time when he was a trooper and was really cool and let me off with a warning." according to Johnson.

This guy will do "anything" to get the nomination.  He doesn't care what damage is done, whether he tears the party apart, or what methods are used....  Note Language Warning

History will demonstrate that its hard to do so, without a near guarantee at some point that we eat crow.  Some folks make mistakes, and we might even be associated with those mistakes when, and if, that time comes.  In fact, associations are often a good indication of a candidate's character, or at the very least, his or her ability to discern the good from the bad.  An occasional judgment lapse doesn't define a person, and as well, a minor success or effort does not either. However, we must embrace those who bring the whole package in a productive manner.

We must look at the big picture.

Today, we start with the recognition that our young voters have not only been misled by current political events, but their indoctrination in our failing public education system completes the corrosive understanding of government and politics.  Folks, we recognize the need to concentrate first and foremost on that big picture by stepping up our outreach to our younger voters and activists. We need to embrace them.  Not only to rebuild their trust in traditional conservative values as espoused in our Republican platforms, but get them involved as it is THEIR future we are fighting for.

To reach them, RightMichigan.Com endorses the selection of Blake Edmonds for the Michigan Republican Party Youth Chair.

Blake has been fortunate enough to have had a solid family values background, a sense of self reliance, work ethic, and skills that have allowed him to develop a college Republican organization that has kept the interest of his peers for more than a single meeting.  He is willing to expand upon those skills statewide with a realistic strategy of growth by inclusion and involvement. This last point cannot be over-emphasized. Without a sense of belonging, its hard to rally the effort needed to win elections and spread a constitutional Republican message. A history of his efforts point to a likelihood of success as youth Chair.

We note the clearly conservative voices in support of Blake as well with Jen Gratz (HERO of Michigan's MCRI effort) Sarah Ledford, (incumbent youth chair) Jeff Sakwa, (2012 candidate, MSU trustee) and Dave Agema, who has demonstrated that there is room in the Republican party for ethical conservative leadership. On Blake's site one can find some quite favorable commentary.   Association with these conservative stalwarts, along with a well considered plan of action, complemented by results already achieved by bringing a conservative Republican message to our youth, seals the deal.

A last word needs to be said however.  for Blake, and others whom we may endorse in the next few days, it is important that he is allowed to accomplish what needs to be done.  That requires a commitment to a party environment that fosters inclusion.  Clearly, it would be helpful to consider a change at the top of our state party, so that such talent is not held back by a repressive central control.

I know we have talked about the NRA recently, and SAFR became part of the discussion.  SAFR is definitely one of the smaller representatives of Gun Owners rights, but seems to represent the true nature of the 2nd Amendment better than some other gun groups.

It was a win for the Cox campaign to see Mike Cox receive the SAFR endorsement, an important point made as the Shooters Alliance for Firearm Rights (SAFR) PAC, is one of the stronger pro-2nd Amendment leaders, with activists and voters across the state.  AG Cox issued the following statement:

"As a Marine, prosecutor and Michigan's Attorney General I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and I will continue to defend our gun rights as governor.  I am honored to stand side-by-side with pro-2nd Amendment leaders, activists and voters at the Shooters Alliance for Firearm Rights in the fight to protect the right to keep and bear arms."

Note that its NOT JUST about hunting...

Former state Sen. Walter North of St. Ignace offered his endorsement on Tuesday after MacMaster discussed challenges facing the state with North, who also was executive chairman of the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
 

"I am extremely honored that Senator Walt North has endorsed my campaign." MacMaster said after the meeting. "I would be truly honored to continue his legacy in the Legislature and Northern Michigan."

The other endorsement from state Rep Paul Opsommer:

"In these tough economic times we need tough-minded representatives who can make the hard choices that will put Michigan back to work, and Greg is that person,"
And,   "Greg brings to the table the values and integrity Lansing so badly needs."

YES or NO..  Taking a stand and committing to principle, instead of some wishy washy nuanced approach that is designed to maximize votes and not hurt any feelings.  True conservative principle that has no room for an intrusive government. Our leaders need to be transparent in their core convictions, the part of them which drives their actions on our behalf.
