How could the day slip by without the mention of RMs favorite tax raiser, and his ambition to be top executive of the state of Michigan? Certainly would we not be forgetting to talk about the one, the man, the only speaker EVER to be recalled for removal in Michigan, Mr. Andy Dillon.
It seems as though it was only Months ago, that we were praising the House Speaker for his stand on a state employee health purchasing option. In fact it WAS only months ago, that Dillon (contrary to the position of his union supporters) rang the bell, leaving little wiggle room for speculation that he would abstain from the governors race in this upcoming cycle. He expressed a relatively "conservative" position on the matter, and set the tone for what will now follow as an slightly more than interesting primary race for the Michigan Democrat party. But he is still a tax raiser. (3 comments, 904 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section Multimedia

RE: Bouchard press release on 11/30/2009 -
Bouchard lays out more specific changes: "A part-time Legislature is a step in the right direction for fixing Lansing" Before anyone levys an allegation that I'd be against this from a new governor as a new State Rep, let me allay those concerns that I am of the same mind of a part-time legislature down the road for sensible reasons, but Bouchard's reasons show that he doesn't realize what's really going on or what's at stake or proper balance of power in State government. Perhaps it's his sheriff background in the public sector that limits his outlook, but let me explain... (Read me out on this! Bouchard post represented at the end.) Poll found at http://woodtv.triton.net/news/epic%20poll%2010209.txt
Now this is real early, but the results are so far promising. EPIC/MRA, a democrat leaning polling firm, has all GOP candidates leading Cherry in the General election except Rick Snyder. The taps were posted by Wood TV in Grand Rapids. Some interesting results are below. (3 comments, 383 words in story) Full Story By steve, Section News

Michigan's Republican candidates for governor will debate for the first time on September 26th at the Biennial Republican Mackinac Island Leadership Conference. The Michigan Taxpayers Alliance will host the event, which will focus on state tax, budget and fiscal issues.
"The Michigan Taxpayers Alliance is pleased to provide a format for taxpayers to hear what candidates for governor have to say about solving Michigan's financial woes," said MTA Director Leon Drolet. "Michigan voters need to scrutinize their future leaders more than ever before. Taxpayers deserve specific proposals to fix Michigan and straight answers." The debate will be emceed by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. Mr. Patterson will direct a top-flight panel that will question the Republican hopefuls for governor. That panel will consist of John Fund, columnist for the Wall Street Journal; Stephen Henderson, editorial page editor of the Detroit Free Press; and Kathy Hoekstra of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Ms. Hoekstra is not related to Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Pete Hoekstra. The invited GOP candidates for governor are Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard, Attorney General Mike Cox, Congressman Pete Hoekstra and Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder. The debate will be open to Conference attendees and media, and be held at 7:30AM at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
The MI Taxpayers Alliance is hosting the debate as a public service to Michigan taxpayers and does not endorse candidates for public office. By conservativefox, Section News
I just received Rick Snyder's email message.
For the governor candidate with the most staff and biggest operation, he really should find someone more clever to write his emails. (2 comments, 294 words in story) Full Story
