Compensation for Michigan's private sector citizens decreased by 10.3% between 2007 and the third quarter of 2009 - the most recent data available from the federal Bureau of Economic Analysis. Most Michiganders are earning less and struggling to get by.
But one group is actually becoming richer in Michigan: government employees. State and local government employee compensation increased by 5.5% during the same period, and federal employee compensation is up by 7.5%. And the good times will keep rolling for state government bureaucrats who are scheduled to receive a nice 3% pay increase this year unless two-thirds of state lawmakers vote to halt the pay hike. Who pays for generous government employee pay increases in these tough times? Remember that Governor Granholm and state lawmakers hiked the state income tax by 12% and the state business tax by 22% back in 2007? Those tax hikes meant more money out of your shrinking paycheck and into the fatter paychecks of Michigan's government class. (6 comments, 563 words in story) Full Story By jenkuz, Section News
She isn't a Democrat, she thinks of herself more as a QUEEN.
People around town are asking, "What is going on with the air permit?" The only logical answer is that Jennifer Granholm wants Wolverine's air permit put on hold until the EPA comes out with a plan to implement what the legislature tried to do with Cap and Trade. You see, Jennifer Granhom does not want this clean coal plant to happen, and she believes that a small town in the frozen north is not going to harm her party's chances at election time. Crains Business Starts off a recent column with:
LANSING - Gov. Jennifer Granholm says she's hoping to help business with her tax restructuring plan, but so far her proposal seems to satisfy nobody in the business community. Ya think? At some point there must be a tipping point where even her kids turn on her and say "Mom, maybe you ought to just bake cookies.." In fact I imagine the thoughts of the executive staff when they see her getting in early, ready to go, must turn to: "Gosh, will she PLEEEEASE take a sick day already??" It has to be that bad.. Given that its quite obvious the governor has no clue how to attract business, why have we allowed her two terms to wreck what was once the jewel of the midwest? Two terms of utter and complete incompetence. Of course, lets put away any partisanship and take a look at some of her her budget proposals... At least pay attention to the Proposals already on the table. In fact take a look at a study of one such proposal already provided by the Hillsdale college scholars.
Governor Granholm has been continuing her path of raising taxes on Michigan as if no one is paying attention any longer. Her most recent budget includes additional spending, (more than this current fiscal year) and she has attempted to manipulate the revenue stream so that the actual tax increase on the citizens is hidden. Her proposed small shift downward in the sales tax looks good on its face, but she hopes to expand the things taxed to services in hopes of generating the needed $2 Billion plus in revenue to cover that spending. Though she claims it is revenue neutral by 2013, how well can we trust the judgment of the most fiscally imprudent executives the state has ever seen? Further... Governor Granholm gave the State of the State Address last night. It was non-eventful to say the least. Tuning in for one purpose, which was to wait for any hint that our community would thrive once again, the listener was extremely disappointed.
Granholm's delivery touted jobs she helped develop, past goals she was in the process of achieving, and praise for the current national administration and put blame on the old.

Tonight we protest the lamest Duck. Governor Jennifer Granholm will be remembered as Michigan's worst governor.. ever. She is the poster child for the new democrats, the far left socialist, control and micro manage fairness crowd. Here, and in other places nationally, Granholm's results are recognized as where the country now goes with her ideological twin, Barack Obama, along with partners in crime Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid. Gratuitous hyperbole? Perhaps. But more appropriately, criticism earned. The buck stops at the Governors mansion, and it is undeniable that Michigan had previously weathered other recessions better than the rest of the nation. In fact THIS recession of Michigan's began BEFORE the nation felt it. Perhaps Michigan has been the anchor holding the bow to the waves in rough seas prior, but now it has fallen off the proverbial ledge and now acts more like cement shoes pulling it under those waves. There is more... (6 comments, 650 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
It may be cold, but the fire is still burning as there will be a tea party at the capitol.
Former Representative Jack Hoogendyk writes:
Come show Lansing that the light of liberty still burns brightly in the hearts of Michigan Patriots! While the legislators and lobbyists gather to listen to Governor Granholm share her view of the State of the State, Tea Party Patriots will gather outside to hear a Tea Party State of the State! Then we can surround the outside of the Capitol as a tribute to the 9-12 philosophy of "We Surround Them." (1 comment, 333 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News

If you haven't heard, Michigan has been in a recession. In fact, it has been an ongoing problem for about 5 or 6 years. The funny thing is, though the country is now getting a taste of what Michigan has endured in that time, there will be many throughout the country that have the same willful ignorance of the cause of their malaise. Sadly some of the most skilled orators are the most deceptive. Trusting her judgment is not an option any longer. In fact, there is nothing redeeming about the miserable failure Jennifer Granholm and the machine which placed her in the driver's seat of the work truck of the nation. Michigan needs a mechanic pretty badly now, as the brakes are shot, the tank is 3/4 empty, and we are running on 2 flat tires.
Tomorrow, Jennifer Granholm will tell us we need to re-upholster the seats however. . (11 comments, 342 words in story) Full Story
