In 1965, when John Conyers first took office in the House of Representatives, Lyndon B. Johnson was President of the United States. Conyers still has a soft spot in his heart for those early years when his future wife Monica was in diapers and members of his own political party were trashing the Civil Rights Act.
Conyers remains sentimental over that political period and wishes that Barack Obama would be more like LBJ when it comes to pushing through legislation that will be disastrous to America, just like most of LBJ's Great Society initiatives were. "the president could take a few pages from Lyndon Johnson's book ... and start knocking heads together."Perhaps so. And then the rest of America could spend another fifty years trying to undo all the damage. John Conyers is so blind that he cannot look at the city of Detroit today and see the damage that the good intentions of government programs can do. Then again, what can you say about a politician whose wisest political move ever may have been in the asking for his future wife's hand? I presume that is what keeps those visions of "knocking heads together" so fresh. (3 comments) Comments >> By Rougman, Section News
John Conyers was very concerned about allegations made in 1998 in Arkansas against ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, when a contractor for one of its affiliated groups was arrested for falsifying almost 400 voter registration cards. Conyers, like the skilled politician he has proven himself to be during his century or so in office, was able to set aside these concerns after determining that a one-time fraud could not be indicative of the total operation.
I'm certain Conyers was extremely concerned too in 2003 when it was alleged that the registration cards ACORN submitted in St. Louis were only 37% valid. But, since it had been five years since the previous incident, Conyers wisely decided to hold his tongue and keep a closer eye on the organization to assure its motives and means continued to be as clean as the wind driven snow. From CNSNews dot com: During his speech at a National Press Club luncheon, House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.), questioned the point of lawmakers reading the health care bill. Perhaps the congressman signs everything, as long as it is proposed by a statist, without reading it? How many laws does the federal government impose upon the people which nobody understands? I would guess the vast majority of them. (6 comments, 180 words in story) Full Story By Political Agenda, Section News
Remember these names: Howard Berman, D-California, U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Michigan, and Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont. These congressmen along with twenty-one other co-sponsors are the originators of the "Performance Rights Act." Remember them in 2010 and again in 2012 with your vote against their continued employment.[1]

Bill's new column this week takes a look at the operations of the left-wing group ACORN and some incomplete reporting on the organization by the New York Times. Since you wouldn't normally have a chance to read this in your local paper (unless you live in Alpena, Escanaba, Marquette, or Mount Clemons), I thought I'd cross-post it here. Just FYI, there is a Michigan angle to this, and it's not one you'd expect.

As a Catholic and a chemist nut, it bugs me every time people try to wedge science vs religion. Of course, these are usually atheists who are using science as a champion against religion. Frankly, the whole thing's absurd. If you want to find a true enemy of science, there's only one place to look: politics.
While there is plenty of evidence for this (see exhibits A, B, C, D... on global warming), today we're going to look at something seemingly minor, but is so totally unnecessary and stupid that one wonders why it comes up in the first place. I give you Michigan's own Congressman John Conyers and his fight against open access of science. (1 comment, 1205 words in story) Full Story By Crippy, Section News
Last week I posted a video of Thaddeus McCotter, A representative Michigan should be proud of. This post is about John Conyers, one of curs Michigan voters send to Washington term after term. In short, Conyers is an abomination, and is a microcosm of the state of the union.
John Conyers has written a letter to Attorney General, Eric Holder, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano asking them to investigate Maricopa County, Arizona sheriff Arpaio. From John Conyers Writes a Letterfrom daveleroy at RedState:

I can tell you very simply why Detroit is in the dumps. The inmates have taken over the asylum. It happened some time ago, but the most incompetent people imaginable are in charge of the city. Case in point today - Monica Conyers. From the pages of the freep this morning: Detroit City Council President Monica Conyers had to be restrained during a confrontation last week with Councilman Kwame Kenyatta in which she hurled insults at Kenyatta about his hearing aid, health and education.Nice. If she were just an ordinary citizen, it would simply be par for the course. But she's the Council President. As a matter of fact, this is unfortunately only the most recent of a multitude of incidents involving Conyers. (1 comment, 1020 words in story) Full Story
