Some tips:

Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Democrat Crossover Scheme

Just in case you've forgotten, there is a special primary election taking place in the old 11th Congressional District about a week from now. According to the Official Michigan Special Primary Candidate Listing, this is going to be a non-issue for the democrats, as David Curson is unopposed. The republican side of that ballot, however, is the entire reason for next week's special election in the first place. And that's just what the mischief-makers on both sides are probably counting on.

I have more than once on this site cited a paraphrase of John F. Kennedy's warning: Those who insist on making a peaceful takeover impossible will ultimately make a takeover by revolt inevitable, and perhaps even necessary. To, for one moment in time, have my "A game" firing on all cylinders . . . and be utterly unstoppable.

To Restore Discipline

The noun decimation, as it is currently used, refers to something causing either great destruction or harm, or a drastic or extreme reduction in population numbers. However, the source verb, decimate, originates from the Latin decimare (removal of a tenth), which in the Roman Legions was a common form of punishment meted out upon mutinous or cowardly soldiers. Those selected for punishment would be divided into groups of ten, and the soldier in each group upon whom the lot fell would be summarily executed on the spot. The message to the remaining nine was clear: get your asses back in line, or join him.

I'm not sure if it's mutineers or cowards that we're dealing with here (or maybe just a highly contagious epidemic of either weak upper spine syndrome or cranial-rectal inversion disorder), but no matter how you slice it, some high-velocity shoe polishing seems to be in order.
