I did not see this coming.
Everyone who's familiar with me is well aware that I'm a big fan of Mike Huckabee. This is for multiple reasons. The guy's a solid conservative and was - in my opinion - a better choice than John McCain for the Republican presidential ticket in 2008. Most importantly, as far as I'm concerned, is the fact that Governor Huckabee is an open proponent of the National FairTax Initiative. (Yes, he's also an open supporter of the Michigan FairTax Proposal.) With that in mind, I fully expected that Governor Huckabee would, if he endorsed anyone in the Michigan Gubernatorial race, be endorsing Pete Hoekstra (who has openly endorsed both the national initiative and the state proposal). Congressman Hoekstra has also actively and constructively engaged the Michigan TEA Party Movement, and I recall well that grassroots engagement was what kept Huckabee in the Republican primary race as long as he was. I also know for a fact that HuckPAC will not endorse, support, or otherwise back any candidate who doesn't support the FairTax initiative. So you can imagine my surprise when, around 8:30 this morning, I received a phone call from a close friend who just happens to be an insider to the Mike Cox gubernatorial campaign.

The first major endorsement for the Michigan Governor's race has been made. The Mike Cox for governor campaign reports that it now sports an endorsement from Former Arkansas Governor Republican Mike Huckabee. News release at 10AM of Huckabee's endorsement demonstrates the importance of the Michigan Governor's race with national politics, by attracting a former presidential candidate's favor to the campaign.
Huckabee says "Mike Cox is best described as Michigan's Pro life conservative candidate for governor." Expect more of Huckabee's statement to be provided by the Cox camp later in the day either here or in other media sources. The Michigan Governor's Race on the republican side includes attorney general Mike Cox, Michael Bouchard, Pete Hoekstra and Rick Snyder. The Democrats so far are putting forward Andy Dillon, Alma Wheeler, and Virge Bernero. (11 comments) Comments >> By apackof2, Section News

Earlier I had heard that the Senators from SC had asked their Atty General to look into the legality of the Health care (HR 3590) bill being rammed through the senate and a with vote scheduled for the morning of the 24th. Triggering the inquest, was the "special treatment" offered to Senator Ben Nelson (D) Nebraska, who had essentially changed his mind based (it seems) on his state getting a permanent exclusion from higher costs in medicare contributions..
Oh boy.. Now I have just received word that Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox has has joined in the fight based on the equity concerns. It seems Michigan taxpayers (and those in other states) would have to pick up even more of the tab because of such sweetheart deals like this calamitous legislation. Poll found at http://woodtv.triton.net/news/epic%20poll%2010209.txt
Now this is real early, but the results are so far promising. EPIC/MRA, a democrat leaning polling firm, has all GOP candidates leading Cherry in the General election except Rick Snyder. The taps were posted by Wood TV in Grand Rapids. Some interesting results are below. (3 comments, 383 words in story) Full Story By msurepublican, Section News
I've been following the recent conversation here about the straw poll on Mackinac Island I'm not sure I understand how people can be upset about Rick Snyder bringing volunteers to the island. I'm a MSU Republican who heard from several campaigns that were trying to recruit me to come to the island and offered to pay for my lodging and other expenses in exchange for voting for them. A friend of mine sent me exactly what Cox's campaign was going to pay for which you can clearly see here. I also picked up this letter from Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land asking for contributions to a fund that was paying for volunteers to go up to the island. I'm sure that voting for Bouchard was a part of their requirements. So it's clear that Rick wasn't the only candidate paying for volunteers to attend.
And as to the video, the person who was interviewed actually did an interview with Michigan Public Radio Network that explained exactly why he was supporting Rick - because of his background in business - on the island and he posted this response.
By the way, It'll be interesting to see if Right Michigan moves something that shows Cox and Bouchard were trying to buy the poll too to the front page or if they're only trying to go after Rick's campaign. From my perspective, Rick's campaign did nothing differently than the other campaigns other than recruit more supporters and run a more effective operation.
Read these materials from the other campaigns, and decide for yourself if the pots are calling the kettle black.

Andy Dillon (R-Redford Township)? In the latter half of this year, it certainly might seem like that is the case. The speaker railroaded members and supporters of his own party by introducing a health care plan that the Democratic allied, Michigan Education Association wasted no time in slamming and that Michigan Democrats all the way up to the top of the administration are "concerned" about.
Then, before the smoke had even finished clearing from the left-leaning Lansing Civil War, Dillon was at it again last week blasting the governor's long-awaited balanced budget proposal saying it had "no chance of passing" and that the governor should know better than to "showboat". Since initially lashing out at the administration, Dillon has seemingly realized that he went a little too far and has significantly backed-off (18.25 mark) from his original statement (READ MORE).
