28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. - Romans 1 (NIV)These Democrats have truly given themselves over to a depraved mind. They are in actuality inventing ways of doing evil, trying to force We the People to pay for outright murder of the innocent under the force of the state. How ghoulish, how evil is it to put a price tag on a baby yet to be born and use that tag to promote killing that child? Snuffing out a life for potential fiscal solvency of a system to take over 1/6th of the US economy even though Congress has no constitutional authority to do so. This account by MI US Rep. Bart Stupak (D) is just sickening. Our country is being run by a kakistocracy. Truly. From the Corner at NRO via memeorandum: `They Just Want This Over' Sitting in an airport, on his way home to Michigan, Rep. Bart Stupak, a pro-life Democrat, is chagrined. "They're ignoring me," he says, in a phone interview with National Review Online. "That's their strategy now. The House Democratic leaders think they have the votes to pass the Senate's health-care bill without us. At this point, there is no doubt that they've been able to peel off one or two of my twelve. And even if they don't have the votes, it's been made clear to us that they won't insert our language on the abortion issue."Stupak points out that unions are putting pressure on him and his pro-life Democrat colleagues. Unions. What happened to the days when unions were about collective bargaining and bennies? What are they doing pushing abortion? Later in the NRO article though, are these very revealing statement about where Democrats really are in their thinking, such as it is: ..."If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That's one of the arguments I've been hearing," Stupak says. "Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue -- come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we're talking about."More below the fold... (1062 words in story) Full Story By jenkuz, Section News
I've been noticing a lot lately that people are growing complacent on the Socialized Medicine Bill, and I thought we could use a little reminder of how unprincipled Bart Stupak is.
Despite suggestions that Stupak is raising a fuss over abortion funding in the bill, his constituency is more heavily concerned with the bill itself. Not that the First District isn't overwhelmingly Pro-life, it is, but Stupak is falsely emphasizing the importance of abortion wording in the bill. The First District is more concerned with the bill itself and it's constitutionality. It's called a red herring argument. Here is a youtube clip of Stupak equivocating on abortion. Don't ever say I failed to praise a representative for doing the right thing. Personally, I applaud Bart Stupak for helping to derail the outright insane health care boondoggle the Democrats in this congress is trying to forward to the President's desk. The Ivory tower reports:
"Michigan's congressional delegation appears split along partisan lines for any health-care vote -- with one notable exception: Rep. Bart Stupak. I know he CANNOT be surprised.. (5 comments, 338 words in story) Full Story By jenkuz, Section News
I am in the 1st district where I am taxed without representation. Stupak is my Congressional Representative.
I found this podcast of the Frank Beckmann show, which is only accessible in these parts by computer streaming. I am a huge fan of Frank Beckmann, even though I don't get to listen to him very often. The podcast runs 17 minutes, you should listen to it, but here is my take of what was said; (8 comments, 229 words in story) Full Story By jenkuz, Section News
While we wait to hear the fate of the prison of Standish, MI, let's put together the facts. The facility is one of a few in the U.S.that may be used to house Guantanamo Bay detainees.
Stupak, Congressman of the 1st District, is enthusiastic about the idea, and helped suggest his district as a home to the Gitmo prisoners. He first suggested an Upper Peninsula prison, but settled on Standish, which was due to close November 1st, 2009, 150 miles from Dearborn. The town is divided on the issue, but efforts led by Dave Munson, and Kelly Kimball to oppose the transfer to the small prison town seem effective. Munson has testified in Washington D.C., and Kimball has been involved with protesting the move. (19 comments, 206 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
The amendment passed.
Then the Bill passed. HR3962 Now goes to the Senate for Reconciliation, where the amendment will be removed before it is cleared, and the bill becomes law. Take it for what you will... But those who put this amendment in there knew the only way to make sure that abortions and illegals are NOT covered by such a bill is to make sure such a bill is not passed. Anyone who voted for this bill needs to go. Stupak DID vote for HR3962 The complete vote in all of its grisly horror is available here (8 comments) Comments >> By jenkuz, Section News
"We came to the point where we actually had an agreement tonight, but it fell apart," Stupak said.
Stupak (D-MI) has been making it clear that he would not vote for the healthcare bill if it included federally funded abortion. He and Rep. Ellsworth (D-IN) have introduced an amendment to the bill that:
* Explicitly prevents all federal tax dollars from being used to provide abortions in the public option; But, taking to the floor this afternoon, Stupak signaled that he would indeed vote for the bill, and continued to encourage his Democrat friends to support his amendment. The bottom line is, Stupak sees nothing wrong with the government takeover of healthcare. Hot Air's Ed Morrissey describes the disgusting endorsement by the American Bishops of this monstrosity of a bill. (1 comment, 248 words in story) Full Story By jenkuz, Section News
Even though Stupak says he will lead 40 Democrats to vote against the healthcare bill, he won't be in DC to strip the provision from the bill, nor will he vote on it.
As theblogprof points out, at a recent town hall in Cheboygan Stupak said: If everything I want [is] in the final bill, I like everything in the bill except you have public funding for abortion, and we had a chance to run our amendment and we lost. OK, I voted my conscience, stayed true to my principles, stayed true to the beliefs of this district, could I vote for healthcare? Yes I still could. -Bart Stupak (117 words in story) Full Story
