I suppose we could all plan out our resolutions; eat less, quit a bad habit, exercise more (or some), stay away from politics, ..
No, wait.. Scratch that last one. As inviting as a life away from political theater might be, its detracting elements are unfortunately the very reason we persist. Common sense often ignored, calls out for correction. Ideological corruption of our traditions and beliefs demands challenge. Transparency and openness requires that we run around, opening windows and letting the sunlight in. Sleeping on the job is not an option. Never mind that we do tire on occasion. It doesn't matter that we've done our job already. That we have endured the wholesale idiocy promoted by the left, and our sanity firewall is perpetually tested. I attended the last meeting in my term as a County commissioner tonight. The interesting thing about serving as a public official is the curious inhibition to controversy one can develop. (unless one is a whacked out lefty - where the more absurd the reasoning the better) Its too easy to start worrying about whether 10% of one constituent group or another will be upset by simple common sense decisions or a reasonable stand on principle. Simple fire resistant pajamas are sufficient for most politicos I think. Instinctual survival techniques, such as not opening ones big fat mouth at an inopportune time suffice quite well. The new year is coming, and its time to try on a fully flame proof outfit. (3 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
So when its 100 Degrees outside, maybe its not such a great idea to go out campaigning hardcore.
Yeah, I know, great excuse. However, believe it or not, I like to door knock. Folks (for the most part) appreciate a visit by someone who might well be representing them. Sales are good so-to-speak, and anyone who I have talked with is positive and upbeat about the chances of turning this district to one that is a little more predictably conservative. And along with great reception, I had a fair comparison made by the local dead tree media. They properly represented my points and comparisons to those of my opponent in the primary: "Jason Gillman, a Tea Party activist and a Grand Traverse County commissioner, rails against tax incentives, as well as laws that would benefit one business over another and other free market tinkering. They had me at "laws that would .." Its somewhat funny after looking at the article then seeing at the side, (to the left here) a reference to the Koch brothers. Low budget grass root campaigns don't need em, but amazingly, the only thing that gets the left's undies bunched like the mention of George Bush, is a mention of anything to do with the Kochs. Ring a bell they salivate, say "GW" and they will shout "no war for oil!", or have a successful message, and off to Koch-ville for those folks. In any event, I'll be writing as I can, but have been happy with the contributions by others on those days where I am working [on this other matter] as mentioned here, and in the article below. In the mean time, get some info up here on some of the other primary challenges. Whats happening elsewhere? What are we going to have as a Lansing landscape after November? We'll be looking for your articles! (3 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section Multimedia
What happens in Vegas will be coming home to Michigan.
I'm heading to this event in a month. Its just a couple of days out of the campaign, and frankly I need to recalibrate the writing skills.

Michigander Jen Kuznicki makes some great points during a critique of Dick Lugar's 'concession speech' last night.
"Rejectionist orthodoxyThis particular blog post drew the attention of none other than conservative radio host Mark Levin this morning, where he posted it on his fan page. H/T to Levin. Indeed. (4 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
In an article "Bandwidth by the barrel", Nancy Derringer of Bridge Magazine [more than] casually mentions our community.
One Quote: "While the collection of regular bloggers at Right Michigan represents a wide spectrum of political opinion, Gillman said he is interested in policing the principles the party stands for. Yep. Hard love.
We aren't here to bash the R's, but rather keep them from driving into the ditch along with the Demoncrats and moderate train wrecks who have wreaked havoc on this state for too many decades.
Feel the love. (3 comments) Comments >> By DetroitRight, Section News
Well, it's sorta new.
For 5 good years, I blogged at PoliticalByline.com and on October 31, 2011 I closed up shop and the domain went black. My host jerked me around and I was going to quit. (5 comments, 163 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
So lets have some fun with it.Its 2012. In 87 years we may have to duplicate this conversation, and I promise to save the Polaroid of this site as it was today, so we can laugh at the missing future as predicted by an already extinct civilization. (though THAT has its own chilling undertones) We could have done the filler "top stories of the year" thing like the local papers have done. Mixing in minor updates with old stories that our A.D.D. selves will have forgotten already, or we can have YOU do it. Yep. This is a "collaborative" effort. It says so right up in the tagline. So put on your thinking caps, or pick up your thinking beer steins, and let us know. Which RightMichigan.com article in 2011 was it that you found most interesting? What was it that ticked you off, made you laugh, encouraged support (or dislike) of a candidate etc.? Have we learned anything, or are we repeating the same information? Was there a Michigan conservative blog elsewhere that you found particularly cool? Its time we sharpen our reading, RIGHTing and reviewing skills.
With an upcoming RightMichigan.com blog contest, a historic election season, and the upcoming end of the world as predicted by a long dead culture, its more important than ever to help us, this state, and our country finally get it RIGHT. The Mayan calendar says we don't make it past 2012, so maybe its time we switch to the Microsoft windows 7 calendar, and hit at least 2099. By JGillman, Section News
Once again, we will be cleaning up the link fest at the bottom right. Those sites that haven't had any changes in a couple years will likely be removed.
RightMichigan.com is seeing unprecedented popularity, and the ranking for this site has improved by a third in the last two months alone. As this is typed, RM is ranked #102,885 in the world, and has improved its standing amongst conservative blogs nationally to about the 77th spot. (DBKP report a little behind as of this writing)This means we are hitting a lot of folks and getting the gears turning upstairs. And while we are coming into the new election cycle, I want to make sure that your blogs are updated so we can send traffic to them, and encourage you to keep on making your principled stands. But sometimes folks just plain stop writing. It sometimes takes a little more time than is available, and in other ways might not seem as rewarding. But we need to have strong conservative voices seen. RightMichigan.com can help that. Truth be told, Michigan has enough politics to keep 100 blogs busy full time. And many actually are. So as I work this morning on Obama's comments in Holland, on some other recent developments in the Michigan US senate primary, and the realization that we will have starving college students soon, those conservative bloggers who need to get us updated should drop a link or two in the comments so we know where to look.
