Arguably, Dr. Rao's primary accomplishment at CMU is finding good football coaches. Unfortunately, VCU doesn't have a football team (but a great basketball team!).
VCU also has a fine (historic, venerable, respected) medical college, which of course CMU does not have. VCU is an urban commuter college with a large ethnic student population, while CMU is in Mount Pleasant (which is neither a Mount nor Pleasant) and a small ethnic student population. In fact, I can't see anything that Rao brings to the table... but at least CMU can move on.
