The Benzie county sheriff Ted Schendel, received the Constitution Defender Award yesterday at the Benzie County Commission meeting drawing applause from the 50 or so present.
The award is given to 3 or 4 each year, with a 'Grand Defender' being chosen from those, and announced during the annual constitution celebration event in Acme MI. This year's event is Sept 15. The award reads: "Has been recognized by the Constitution Celebration Committee and membership as a person of indefatigable character, who abides by the laws of our country, and defends with vigor, the principles of its founding by lawful means.Mr Schendel upheld his oath. This video provides a pretty good explanation WHY this Sheriff was chosen.
We thank him.
And the Benzie Sheriff is not alone. (10 comments, 512 words in story) Full Story By Corinthian Scales, Section News
America's conscience is responding with strengthening itself against tyranny, while our governmental protectors now practice maneuvers in Miami, and Huston, that desensitize, and hone skills as is observed here. Interesting times we live... (3 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section News
The opponents to the 2nd amendment [enumerated] rights are so predictable.
How sad. How intellectually lazy. How incredibly naive. Not in the failure of the governor to sign, but in the thinking that one does not have the absolute God-given right to defend their person from aggressors by whatever means possible. In the thinking that some social sense of insecurity should trump the ability for an individual to provide for his or her own protection. In the thought that an unarmed populace is somehow more intrinsically safe than one which in self interest, has armed itself.
Thus the argument so predictably presented by the left, that the founders of our constitution "didn't envision semi-automatic rifles and machine guns", falls flat on its face. The second amendment was put in place for a reason. It was followed up by the third, (quartering without consent) which few could quote, and was placed so early in the bill of rights as to make very clear, its importance. Those two set up a very clear message to our newly formed government that it was not to assume any activity contrary to the liberty and freedoms assumed by the populace; that no action UPON the people would be accepted, and that the people had the right to defend against force in the commission of such action. Rick Snyder has missed the point once again.
Fear of those time wasting recalls, and by golly the possibility that scorn of the public might translate into some form of holding-feet-to-fire action, has encouraged action by certain legislators. In fact that fear has energized the bunny governor, who has hopped right into the wrong side of the argument.
In his statement regarding passage of HB6060 and HB6063, the governor frames the role of recalls incorrectly. He says; "The option to recall an elected official is an important feature of our state's democratic process, but Michigan's current recall system has some components that all sides have agreed are flawed. These changes will help ensure recalls are done in a fair and consistent manner and help prevent political gamesmanship from both sides of the aisle." How compelling that we be saved from "political gamesmanship". How wonderful it is, to make it a more pleasant employment atmosphere for the sensitive egos of politicos who cannot live up to their promises, implied or openly stated. Oh my, such pressures to live by. More below. (3 comments, 510 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News

Let us entertain you. The Romans did just that. During some of the worst times and under questionable government , Romans were entertained, given food, and kept subservient through all manner of sociological bribery and extravagance. "panem et circenses", as described by period satirist Decimus Junius Juvenalis, (Juvenal) describing the social distractions as "Bread and Circuses". One could find a number of similarities between the Romans and ourselves as our society engages on its natural path of entropy. Especially considering the mass distractions of Rome and our era, a few of those similarities are certainly clear, and people are still essentially the same. Titillation and free stuff is a great way for government to avoid being held accountable for its ongoing failings.
Through 'gladiator' sports such as football, NASCAR or boxing, the excitement easily overcomes what might be the boring responsibility of eternal vigilance. Movies that demonstrate very real violent performances of the most graphic kind, to the mildly or more severe pornography certainly satiate a number of other necessary diversions. As a bonus, movies can serve to propagandize watchers in a way not available when the lions tore Christians limb from limb. If we look, many of us might see in ourselves the very same lust for excitement through the actions of others, and the danger or reward they face or receive. Obamacare mandate blocked.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette today announced that a federal judge has issued a ruling blocking the implementation of a controversial U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) mandate that would force religious employers to violate their religious and faith-based beliefs by providing insurance plans that cover services, including abortion-inducing drugs, that conflict with those beliefs. In other words, keep your vagina out of my wallet. (8 comments) Comments >> By JGillman, Section Multimedia
Rule of law.
Ad talking about it beats the hell out of emotion, fear mongering, etc.
Bottom line? We need to keep good referees on the court. (2 comments) Comments >>
