Given the previous article, I thought you all might enjoy this one.
Michigan State Senator Proos talks about dredging as it relates to water use tourism, and the dollars flowing in from it. Concerned about a boating traffic 'shutdown' he notes the economic costs of our great big bathtubs filling up with silt.
At the end, as always, our daddies in Washington are pleaded to, for consideration in getting some of our allowance money to pay for getting our toys into the harbor. By steve, Section News
Uber liberal columnist Laura Berman (at Detroit's 'more' conservative paper) opines the reason Detroit government can't pay its bills stem from the fact they don't collect all the taxes the city is due.
But the city's bigger customers likely enjoy more flexible arrangements. Right now, Detroit journalists are specifically documenting gigantic black holes in the city's revenue collection "system," which may have enabled various Ilitch organization entities to decline the privilege of paying the city various fees and taxes. "The city's biggest customers?" As if the city government of Detroit is providing some sort of valuable service. Bizarre... People are leaving the city in droves and its economy is upside down. When six of the top ten employers in the city are local, state and federal agencies that provide zero economic growth, this is a recipe for disaster and no amount of enhanced tax collection is going to fix the problem. Despite the impact of the Federal Reserve on every single American's money and daily life, it is the most secretive agency in the entire federal government.

Metro Detroit gun dealers say demand for firearms is so brisk that some can't keep enough weapons in stock to satisfy the demand. Well, that, and the observations made that the Trotskyites in power have requisitioned a .40 cal round for every breathing skull on our soil along with the Pentagon gaming Unified Quest 2011 .. just might have a little something to do with sales too.
An aside, for those unaware, Putin's Russians who are partnered with China are war gaming in Colorado. Amazing, though not a surprising occurrence for the Obama administration. By Corinthian Scales, Section News
I just can't get over this one.

Wind farms in the Pacific Northwest -- built with government subsidies and maintained with tax credits for every megawatt produced -- are now getting paid to shut down as the federal agency charged with managing the region's electricity grid says there's an oversupply of renewable power at certain times of the year. At least I have my memories of this nation when it didn't blow. (3 comments) Comments >> By ReincePriebus, Section News

Many of you know that my employment situation has been up in the air for a long time. As a Michigander, that makes me no rarer than one in five people walking on the pot-holed streets of this once great state.
Vacant houses line the landscape, U-Haul lots are as sparsely populated as a Joe Biden scalp, and the Michigan Works office has replaced the local coffee shop for catching up on juicy gossip. "Mary, I'd absolutely love to know whom Jim is dating, but I've got two on-line applications to submit before my unemployment gets cut off." Well, thankfully, I have solved my own little employment problem. While the solution is less than ideal in that it provides me less than full time labor, it does provide me with a paycheck (if intermittent) and a certain sense of esteem (if probably undeserved.) That's right folks, I've found a job. And, as Jennifer Granholm would be remiss to predict, that job is In Georgia. (1 comment, 1444 words in story) Full Story By jenkuz, Section News

Fred Upton got the post he wanted in the House, as Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Boehner gave him the job over massive objections from conservatives. Perhaps if Upton cries, he will convince some of them that he's going to be a real stalwart. JGillman of RightMichigan voices the concern that so many are thinking. Now that Upton got the post over all the objections, will he do what needs doing? Judging from some of his responses to criticism, I'd say that's a definite no. He said he was going to Washington to repeal that healthcare law, then he agreed to support the insertion of Pitt's Protect Life Act, and Smith's No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act into the law. That's called nibbling around the edges. The way the genius Republican leadership has been going, if the acts do end up being inserted, they will become known as the Stupak amendment for criminy's sake. Why in the world would you say you were going to repeal it, but first change it a little to make it better, then repeal it? Does that make sense? (3 comments, 470 words in story) Full Story
